DX and FX shooters

What was or has been your experience?

I'm buying a D750 and a Nikon 14-24 2.8. I've been longing for this set-up for a long time.

I assume I'll mostly use my new FF set-up going forward. I'm keeping my D7100, my Tokina 11-16II, Sigma 17-70C, and Sigma 18-250mm.

I'm getting rid of a lot of stuff I've bought over the last two or three years and basically never used. I'm thinking cut the pieces and parts down to minimal. Of course, minimal is relative. :)

My first love is landscape. I also like Milky Way, Star Trails, and night shots. Mostly go wide all the time.

With my DX kit, I have a trinity that gets me the length to shoot most anything I care about. I'm thinking the only other lens I'll buy for the D750 is the Sigma 24-105. My current thought is since the DX has more reach, I'd use it when I needed maximum reach.

Am I kidding myself? Any of you guys not filling your kits with multi range glass so you can do anything and everything with both formats?

Will the GAS ease a bit?

Anyway, Sunday morning thoughts. All opinions welcome!

When I went digital with the D200, I already had a battery of lenses I used with my F5 and N90s. Since the D200 is FX, I just got used to using the FX lenses without trying any of the DX offerings. I bought a D500 in early June, and ended up buying a few DX lenses for it. In July, I bought a D750, because I believe that just shooting the "center" of the lens in DX, was wasting the capacity of the lens. The D750 has been a great addition, and it's becoming my "go to" camera, especially with the Nikkor 200-500 f5.6, and the newer 70-200 f4.

One of the assets of the D750, is that using DX lenses will cause it to "revert" to DX format. Just more versatility.

I'm still delving into the capabilities of both bodies.

As to the GAS, I'm resisting the urge to invest in a 70-300mm VR. It does go away, but the urge is mighty.

I shoot both FX and DX and I have the 14-24mm and love it. I also have a variety of nikkor af-d glass that I find useful when needed. I have a D800e, a D700, and a D300s, but no DX glass. I would only suggest that you don't need the 11-16 if your going to use a D750 for wide shots! the nikkor 14-24 does an awesome job especially with an adapter and polarizer lens when doing landscapes!

But go with what feels right to you, is what I recommend most! :)

Yeah... I'm looking at monopods again. That SIRUI P-204s is calling me...

I'm looking forward to seeing how the DX lenses work on the D750.

Very interesting thought. The 11-16 is such an awesome lens on the D7100 that I can't imagine the possibility that I'll feel it's no longer wanted. I guess that's the whole point of the D750 and the 14-24, though...

I do set up two cameras quite a bit. I love time lapse so i often shoot sequences with one and stills with the other.
