    D750 Near Future Availability

Has anyone heard anything concerning D750, or other Nikon equipment, availability?

I got the last one from the store I patronize on Saturday, and someone I know tried to purchase one at another store and they were told that they had none and were not likely to get any in the near future. The owner told them that the recent earthquakes in Japan had damaged some Nikon production facilities and that only those bodies enroute from the manufacturer and in Nikon USA supplies will be available in the immediate future.

While it sounds plausible, it seems that news like this would have made it to the street...

I've heard that delay relative to smartphone production ... that Apple and Samsung both have had manufacturing shut down after the recent earthquakes to repair damage. It sounds like some automotive manufacturing has also been impacted.

That said, I haven't heard anything specific to Nikon.

You sorta have to dig around and read between the lines.

The recent devastating Kumamoto earthquakes have had far-reaching effects on various industries, including the photo industry. In addition to temporarily closing a pair of Sony image sensor plants, the earthquakes have now affected Nikon's release targets for a variety of upcoming cameras. In addition to the earthquake, however, various production issues are also at play for Nikon.
Notice the highlighted text... Sony makes the sensors in the D750...

Nikon closes their statement with the following message, "We sincerely apologize to our customers, business partners, and all those who have expressed interest in these models for the delays. We are making every effort to bring these models to market at the earliest possible date without compromising on our standards and the total Nikon product experience."

I'm guessing there's some truth to the shortage...

Might explain the initial delay in the D500. I'm hoping it doesn't mean it could be months before the next load hits the shores.

Prices have been steadily increasing too recently - I suspect retailers/distributors are pushing prices up due to low supply in hope of making a little more cash before availability becomes high again.

This I haven't seen. Dealers are pretty much stuck with a cap at Nikon's MSRP and likely cannot sell it above that. Most seem to float right at or below that until Nikon itself offers a direct discount. So by prices inching up do you mean that there have been fewer discounts?

Have a look at the price tracker here: Nikon D750 Camera Body Best UK Price - Compare Prices Here - UK Stock.

Yes, discounts have been less forthcoming, but after a good price drop in March, prices seem to have gone back up, and as far as I remember the drop then was not a discount but a regular price.
Having spoken to one retailer recently, they advised they always sell below the MSRP, however in not so many words because there was less stock available they were having to pass on the price hike!! To me that means, they were making money out of the low demand because I don't see Nikon charging more when they have no stock, unless I don't understand the supply and demand pricing of a large corporation like that

That's typical first quarter discounting. Happens every year like clockwork and is always in tune with Nikon discounting on their website.

As I posted yesterday in the deals section, B&H is including a free Nikon grip with the D610, D750 and D810 - a $300 value at least.

I need B&H to ship to the UK for free... and for UK customs not to slap me with import fees
