Pretty much self explanatory. Shipping it back to Nikon ASAP. Around 8000 clicks and 6 months. Way to go Nikon!

Ouch. That is a bummer.

Funny thing is, I treat this camera with kit gloves. The D7100 gets thrown around on the truck seat, it falls off the seat onto the floorboard . It gets wet, hot cold and everything else. I change lenses without turning the power off and so on. It just keeps on ticking without a hickup.

One curious thing I did notice yesterday.
I got back from shooting around a 100 shots, and I noticed a larger than normal amounts of sensor dust. I have not cleaned the sensor in a while so I thought nothing of it, and did clean the sensor this morning before heading out.

I don't know if the shutter failure and the large amount of dust is related, but I am suspecting that it is.

The second service recall for D750 is related to the shutter mechanism. I wonder if your camera is affected. I sent mine several months ago and they replaced the entire shutter system. Took 3 weeks to have it back!

Hmmmmm. It may be bits of the shutter that's been chipped or flaking off. Too bad you can't shoot a clean wall to really take a peek aka D600 explosions

I didn't realize there was a recall for this. I remember the first one and according to the serial # mine was not affected. Could you link to this second recall please?

It's focuses on cameras made Oct-Nov 2014. Use the serial number tool on the Nikon site. It will tell you if you have a faulty unit.

According to the serial number my camera is just fine and dandy. I guess I can go back to using it.:loyal:

This "shutter issue" was not an issue with the shutter but with the placement of (IIRC) part of the AF system. It caused shading in extreme lighting conditions. This was not an actual issue with the shutter mechanism.

With that said, I'm with those who stated that the excess dust you cleaned this morning could likely be shutter bits from whatever failed. Whatever you do, do not mention that you cleaned the sensor this morning.
