Tips & Tricks for the D750

I am a newbe with the D750 so I think it would be nice to add some of the tips for the D750 that you have come across and really enjoy.

My first one is the Exposure Preview in Live View. This is something totally new to me since the DX models do not have this feature. If I remember correctly I had to do the latest Firmware update for it to work correctly. Here is a quick youtube on how to turn it on. I have been using this method a lot and it is the best way to expose a photo have found. Works great every time.

For me another great option is highlight metering. I always use it when shooting landscapes, or any other subject where I want to secure the highlights.

Would you tell us more about that like how to use it?

It's just another metering mode but one that heavily weighs the highlights in its calculation.

When I shoot landscape I always use it to control my highlights. It's very easy to blow out a part of the sky but when I set it to highlight metering and then expose "correctly", it ensures my highlights. I'm of the opinion the most important part of shooting is correctly capturing the highlights and this metering mode makes that a pretty easy task. Evidently you can do it with any metering mode but with the others you too often have to check the histogram to be sure you didn't blow them.

I also use it when shooting portraits since it goes well with my ISOless shooting but I can't say how well it'll work with high ISO.

I had to look it up and finding it was not real easy but once i did it is pretty easy

When you scroll through the modes, it's the one with the star at the corner. Too bad it doesn't work with every lens. My 135/2 switches to center metering when I select highlights but my other lenses have no problems with the option.

In case you don't know: when shooting live-view with exposure preview, you can activate the histogram. It makes night or low light photography a lot easier when you directly see the distribution of your levels.

After using my level, I always activate the histogram.

Can you give us the quick how-to on this tip?

If I remember correctly you just push the info button while in live-view. It cycles through some options and one of those should be the histogram. I can't remember if it has to be activated in the menu or is always enabled.

I haven't got the D750 on me right now so I can't check.
