I am unable to change AF mode and area. I the lens is switched to M/A, AF button is depressed, info display is on. It is stuck on AF-C and 51 zone area. Spinning control wheels changes nothing. Am I missing something. Thanks ahead.

Just so we're absolutely clear on the details... You mean to say you're pressing the AF Area-mode button (pic below) while turning the Command Wheel (back of the body) to try and adjust Focus Mode and the Sub-command wheel (front of the body) to try and adjust the AF Area-mode. Following these steps you can not get the camera to use any other setting other than AC-C with 51 points, is that correct?

AF-C and 51 point focus are locked. yes
Maybe someone else will have another suggestion but *I* can't think of anything else that would cause this issue other than a broken AF-Mode button.

If that's the problem you're looking at needing to have the camera serviced.

Might try rebooting it. https://seventrumpet.com/nikon-d7200-factory-reset/

I have tried several. Since I did the factory reset, I'm locked at AF-A mode and auto-area AF. Thanks again for your thoughts.

If you are stuck in AF-A, then I'm not sure you can make a whole lot of changes to the other setting(s). If the button that Horoscope Fish pointed out doesn't change when it's pressed in (while rotating the dial), then unfortunately I think you are simply stuck with the settings you've got. It sounds more like that button is the culprit here.

To those who have responded to my issue, thanks for your input and concern. My camera has been repaired(I think) by Nikon and returned to Delaware Camera in Buffalo, where I had taken it. Six weeks and $350. I guess I'll keep it for awhile.
