With my D7200 I shoot almost always with the Nikon AF-S 80-400MM F/4.5-5.6G ED VR. My current Firmware shows:

C 1.02
L 2.016

All works just fine but was wonder if a firmware update is a good idea. The nikon site shows Nikon D7200 C:Ver.1.04 &Distorton Control Data Ver.2.017. Should I download these and if so do I do each individually. Thanks haven't ever updated firmware myself.

Some Sigma lenses have not worked right after camera firmware updates over the years. If you don't have a Sigma lens, go for it. If you do have a Sigma, do some googling and see if there were any problems before taking an update. I think there were some tweaks for the newer Nikon af-p lenses in the past year or so. I tend to grab updates, but you can usually live without them. You can read on the Nikon site what each update does and decide.

I'm not sure what the camera would do if you put two update files on the memory card so I would do them separately. The bigger part of the job is downloading and figuring out where Nikon stashed the update on your computer. No big deal to copy them to the memory card and install one at a time. Doesn't matter which one you do first. Read the instructions carefully. If I remember right, the main update ended up in my download directory and the lens data went to a folder on my desktop.

Possibly because ime old school but i go with the if it aint broke don't fix it, so if a firmware upgrade offers me nothing i ignore it, normally you catch up when one comes along you need.

I have never been able to successfully update firmware. Either I cannot find the download or it fails to load to memory card or it fails to go from memory card to camera. But I am an old fool.
