Candle and joss-sticks

I had to look up joss-sticks which appear to be incense. Do they use that frequently in addition to candles, Michael? Is there a reason for burning joss-sticks other than just smelling the fragrance? Your culture is so different than ours here in the USA so am just trying to get educated.

Incense we us more for Chinese traditional festivals and Joss sticks on daily basis..
I am not sure if I use the words correctly for those smelling sticks
