Does D7200 Know I'm Using Filters?

I have read a lot about compensating exposure when using polarizers, NDs, etc. On my D7200 I have used as much as a 3-stop ND with a 2-stop ND Grad on top of it and even on auto or A priority the pix come out great (bracketed). Does the D7200 "know" I have these filters on? Is there a point at which it won't? (The (excellent) Mastering the Nikon D7200 book seems to suggest the camera can tell up to six stops but after that I'm on my own. I may be misreading it....). Thanks.

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.
We look forward to seeing more posts and samples of your work.

As long as the D7200 has enough light through the filter to trigger the exposure metering, it will provide the correct exposure. Six stops does sound about right, depending of course on the level of ambient light.

Yes, it should automatically compensate for it as Brent said. The body takes the meter reading through the lens. However, if you use a handheld light meter to take a meter reading (if you were going to shoot in straight manual mode), then you'd have to factor in the filter's strength before setting the values in your camera's body.
