Abe’s of Maine..
Well I got screwed. That’s how I been feeling since last Thursday.
I had a Pop Ad for Abe’s so I went to see his prices on a Nikon D7200 & 18-140mm VR.
I put both items in my Cart and the total came to $879.0 .. I re-read the info. All said Brand new, etc.
Next day I get an E-mail for me to call them. The sales person says on the phone that I can upgrade my purchased. I said what do you mean. Then he went on to tell me that if I have to repair the Camera it has to be sent back to Abe’s same with lens. Also what I ordered doesn’t come with Battery, Charger, Caps, Cable, etc.
So I said I want the USA Nikon camera with warranty. So my new cost went to $1100.00. I said lets do it… Hours later got message saying it was being shipped FedEx.
Later that day I went on facebook and started getting info about my new camera from the Nikon groups.. Then it started. Abe’s is a Scammer; Abe’s is a Fraud, etc, etc.
Then searched web. Better Business loads of complaints. All of Internet same . Very Bad business to buy from. I was sick to my stomach.
I call Abe’s to cancel my order. They told me that it states in there Policy a 15% restock fee place shipping expenses. No ifs or buts. So that would come to me losing $225.00.
They already up my Purchase $220…
Well my Camera came today. Nikon Kit box D7200 & 18-140 VR. On the main Flap to open was a China seal. The Camera nor the lens starts with US..
I charged the Battery and the Camera and lens works ok.. I guess I got screwed this time from them but wont again..
I can’t wait to learn how to use all the functions on the D7200. I upgraded from a D5100

So wait...you upgraded and paid more for a US model but were still sent a grey market body/lens? That should have been enough for you to file a complaint either with your credit card company or PayPayl (however you paid). That's a shame. If it was me, I'd fight it. That's why credit card companies and PayPal are safer ways to pay.

A few months back, B&H had the D7200 body on sale for $796.95. And it was a new USA body. Maybe it will be on sale again for the upcoming holidays.

Lesson learned... Always research a company before you buy. Also if the price is so much better then there is probably a very good reason.

Sorry you had to learn this lesson the hard way.

I thought Abe's was one of the good guys, one of the few survivors of the 100+ scammers that were Brooklyn, NYC years ago...

Sorry to hear of your experience.

If you used a credit card, then you can get your purchase price back. Uncharge them including the restock fee for a Chinese camera you didn't order.

Years ago, before the end of the Dawn of the Digital Age, I ordered a few filters from Abe's. I called them and placed the order over the phone, since I wanted to ensure that they had it all in stock since I needed them immediately. (Back then, my only other option was by mail.) They told me that they would ship it all out that day and that I should have it within three days, which met my time requirements.

Well, as you guessed it, the filters didn't arrive and I had to leave on my trip without them, totally altering what I was able to do photographically on the trip.

In the end, I got back home after about two weeks on the road and the order still had not arrived.

So I called them, to ask what had happened, and they said that their sales agent was wrong and they didn't have the items in stock and they had to be special ordered. I inquired as to whether the items were shipped yet and was told that they went out "already", or to that tune. Well, the fact of the matter is that the items had not shipped yet, but were shipped a few days later according to the shipping box. Of course, they were not returnable at all since they were special order.

And that, folks, was the last and only time I've ever given Abe's any business.

Screw me once, shame on you; twice, shame on me!

Sorry for your trouble, Joecap, this is why I am here: Researching a too-good-to-true price on a new 200-500 4.5 from Abe's.
I appreciate you letting us know.

Just to add to your research efforts, Westpark Electronics, LLC (DBA Abe's of Maine) currently has a "D" rating from the BBB. My personal advice is to avoid them like the plague.

One thing I have found is if the price is "too good to be true" it is gray market without aUS warranty. You can't even get them serviced by Nikon.

If they are advertising a 200-500 4.5.
A couple red flags are flying already.

Al i can say is that my last camera purchase was not at Abes. Have great prices. BUT, I sent more than a few emails asking about USA cameras. No answer. So I looked up the Authorized USA Nikon dealers. Abes is not listed.. Clue. From what I can tell same model Nikon cameras are the same price at every authorized dealer.. If the price is lower it is going to be a Grey market unit.

Dealer list below
