D750 Transfering Images & Software Issues on MAC

Greetings!

I recently acquired a D750 and found that the Nikon ViewNX 2 software will not install on my Mac (OS X 10.12). The computer does not have an SD reader, either. Even if I did try to use an external SD reader, I believe I will need the Nikon software, which does not install (hangs on "Additional Installation" indefinitely).

How do I go about getting images out of the camera and on to the computer?

Thanks for any assistance.

Try going in safe mode and reinstall. I use a card reader to remove images. Another way is an apple app that you have and I am writing on my iPad you use the usb cable from the camera plugged into the USB port of the Mac and use “image capture” app something close to that,as son as I get to my Mac I’ll apend this.

Do yourself a favor and get a USB card reader. COPY and paste your files to your hard disk or external hard disk BEFORE you attempt to convert them. If you use NEF files, you could install Adobe Camera Raw converter to get the NEF files converted to JPEGs.
Keep the NEF files don't ever discard them.

Other than that, I'd suggest looking at LightRoom or Darktable or Photoshop Elements to convert Nef to jpeg and do adjustments to your files.

If you really prefer Nikon software, I think you have to use Nikon NX-D. I have Mac OS 10-13 and it works OK. It's not the same workflow as View NX-2, but it does the job done.

It's worth it to spend a bit of time finding out which program suits your needs and try a few. There are so many of them out there that basically do the same job. The main thing is finding an interface that you enjoy working with. For me, it's Adobe LR and PS all the way.

Good luck shopping around.

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.
We look forward to seeing more posts and samples of your work.

The preceding posts pretty well covered you issue.

Thank you all for your replies. I am not married to the Nikon software at all, just thought it was my only option. I;ll look at these options and move on from there. I have photoshop elements ... probably a trial version, and one other free program (though it appears to be pretty deep). Will update once I get images into the Mac.

First off, howdy and welcome to Nikonites!!!

Secondly ... two things:

I still think Apple did us a dis-service when they removed the SD card reader from the MacBooks. That said, I now travel with an external SD and XQD reader. So, other than not being fully integrated into a single case, no functionality is lost.

You do not need to use Nikon’s software in order to read the SD card and/or copy images from the card to the computer. The software should install fine, but you may need to download the latest version for use on your version of macOS. I do have it running on both 10.12 and 10.13 (also known as Sierra and High Sierra), but the version that came with your D750 may predate that.

Greetings ...
I was able to use Image Capture to get images from the camera to the computer. Still, it sounds like an SD card reader would be a better way to go, so I'll look into that. I have a free image editing program called Photo Scape (or something like that). It has a fair amount of editing tools with more being available through in-app purchase. I will also look into the programs suggested above, they're probably better.

Note: I thought I entered a reply to this earlier but don't see it here, but in case this duplicates a previous post, please disregard.
