Help with plug

HI All. Recently I traded my D7000 for a D7200 and I've discovered a problem (for me at least). It appears that Nikon have changed the accessory terminal (under the flap) on the camera that you would plug in your remote release cable (MC-DC2). I used to tether my D7000 to my laptop for several years using a USB A cable to the accessory terminal on the camera. It is, without doubt, a different accessory terminal connection on the D7200. Could someone please tell me what type of plug it is? ie: micro 4 pin, mini 4 pin etc....I've tried downloading an image of the plug to no avail. No, I'm not interested in connecting wireless. My old brain prefers cables over technology. I trust I've supplied enough info for you to understand my frustration. Look forward to any replies. Regards to All...................PS. I've looked at Tether Tools and they show an entirely different connecting plug with 8 pins for the D7200.

Thanks for your speedy reply Andy. And the attachment. The small usb plug in your attachment shows an 8 pin and different plug shape. My Camera has a 4 pin socket and the same plug shape as is on the nikon shutter release cable MC-DC2. I'll keep searching and try to find a picture of the plug. I've spoken to a couple of sales people in Melbourne and they don't seem to understand what I'm talking about. Thanks again Andy. I'll start searching again. Regards...Russ

Mini B 8 pin to usb is what the Nikon UC-E17 USB Cable is according to my research.
Shaped like the HDMI terminal. The Tether Tools image looks right to me.

Everything I read states the remote accessory terminal is the same on both cameras. MC-DC2 should fit both. So, somebody who has both models can sort that out. Not sure what is happening there.

This is what happens when you have insomnia. :)

Hi Dawg Pics. Yeeeeaaaah:encouragement: Thats the 4 pin plug I'm talking about. What is the ID name of the plug? ie: mini..micro.. usbNo 15. I can't find any info on it at all. The only place I can find one is on the end of an MC-DC2 shutter release. I require a usb2 cable with that plug on the other end to plug into my D7200 accessory terminal. Cable length, whatever I can get.Thank you heaps for posting. I have several of these cables to suit my D7000 but unfortunately they don't fit my D7200. I've been trying for hours to post an image of it. When I attempt to post an image, it gets refused because there's "too many words".?? Thanks again Dawg. Regards...Russ.

Well, I think that MC-DC2 connector is unique to Nikon for the accessory terminal for the shutter cord and GPS. At least it seems that way. I only found one knock-off and it is no longer available. So, maybe Nikon can tell you what it is. I can't locate anything than what I showed you.
The only other cable with the same connector is the accessory cable for the GPS unit, which is called the GP1-CA90 Accessory Cable. I can not locate any information about what is on the end of that cable if you are looking for a jump between that to USB. Maybe Nikon can tell you what is on the other end of the accessory cable. Or maybe somebody here has one.

Is there a reason you want to use the accessory input rather than the USB input on the camera? Just curious. Good luck. I can't locate any other information on the plugs.

To post a jpg of what you are talking about. Resize it to 1000 on the long side and use the little icon (third from the right) to attach. It will open a box to choose the image from your computer. Then upload. Sometimes we have issues with the image downloader. You can also post a link to the image if you have flikr or smugmug.

Thanks for the info on posting an image Dawg. Back to the plug. On my old d7000 I used the bottom accessory terminal to tether my laptop to my tether program. "NKRemote". After speaking to another Nikon rep today, I'm informed that the bottom accessory terminal on the d7200 is for a corded shutter release MD-DC2 and GPS stuff. He said I need to tether to the usb terminal on the d7200 using a UC-E17 cable which obviously didn't come with the camera. I've since ordered the cable so I'll hurry up and wait. Thanks everyone for your responses. Greatly appreciated. Regards.....Russ

Yeah, that is the same cord I was talking about that goes into the top port (USB) on the side of the camera, essentially the same one linked by Andy.

Glad you are sorted.
