Hello,

I've found general suggestions for taking shots of birds/wildlife, but was hoping to get specific favorite settings (say what someone has set up in their U1/U2).

I'm shooting with a D7200 and a Nikkor 200-500mm AF-S VR f/5.6.

Much appreciated if anyone can share!

I set mine at f5.6 with shutter at 1600. AutoIso Normally with the max no higher than 2500. I also use a gimbal and back button focus. I mostly shoot smaller birds like cardinals and bluejays with an occasional buzzard. I also have the 200-500.

Everyone has their own rules of thumb, but handheld in good light, I would be using something like , ISO 400, 1/2500th of a sec. f7.2 , back-button focus, D51 mode, long duration lock on , focus priority , af-C , at least a burst of three on high rate , RAW+ Jpeg Basic , ( even if underexposed 1 to 2 full stops, being fixable in post ) , fine compression , Adobe RGB . On a D7100 with 150-600mm lens zoomed out just short of max ,to 500mm. ( Single center focus point ) VR off.
