Help please - Trying to set up U1 for 5-Shot Bracket

Greetings. I'm still working my way through the D7200 book and owner's manual, and thought I had this figured out, but I was wrong. Here's what I would like to do:

In "P" setting, I got everything set up to do a 5-shot bracket +-0.7 each shot, on a Self-Timer of 5 seconds (to eliminate vibration), and with the 5-shot series firing off at 0.5 seconds between shots. It works fine in "P" setting. I push the shutter, and 5 seconds later, it shoots all 5 shots. I select the "MENU" and go to "Save as U1" so I can quickly get into this bracketing mode. However, when I save it as "U1" and later spin the dial to "U1", it only takes 1 photo with no delay. It doesn't seem to remember the 5-second delay or to shoot the series of 5. It does have the bracketing set up, but I have to release the shutter for each shot. I also have tried it with the timer clockface selected on the top left-hand dial next to S, CL, CH, etc.

Am I missing something?

Thanks for any help.

You really need to get away from P mode it does everything for you...........

Thanks - I was using "P" mode just to get everything set up for U1. You made me think, though, maybe I should get it set up with the dial in "U1" position???

I'll be back......

You're doing it the right way (by using Save as ...), so don't worry about that. I think your issue may be what is mentioned on page 62 of the camera manual:

"The following can not be saved to U1 or U2: ... Interval time shooting ..." I assume that's what is throwing the monkey wrench in your case.

Looks like this is the case, indeed. I think I will finally unpack my ML-L3 remote and use it to take the 5 bracketed photos (to reduce/eliminate shake).

Thanks!!

I think I found a good solution on Page 254 of Darrell Young's book (Mastering the Nikon D7200). If you set up a bracket and use the self-timer, it will fire the entire bracket sequence when the shutter is released. I went in and set up the 5-shot bracket and other settings, saved it as U2, and now when I go to U2 and set the timer (5 second delay, 1 second between shots), it shoots the entire bracket sequence.

Not quite as easy as I would have liked (1 step), but still pretty easy (2 steps).

Now to download "Photomatix" and start experimenting with HDR.

Lightroom does the best HDR I have seen. Very natural looking.
