Four days, 300 shots and then...

I bought a 7200 body and 35mm f1.8G in Sydney on Thursday of last week. It had been a great camera (and lens) up until Monday of this week, when I got the dreaded 'Err' message in the top LCD display, and it's pretty much frozen as far as taking pictures is concerned. It's at the warranty service provider now - it was the first 7200 they had seen!

I've had that error message crop up a few times over the years but re-seating the lens, or swapping out lenses has always solved the problem. Here's hoping your solution is cheap and easy!

Frustrating, especially because I was intending to have a look at a pre-owned film-era 80-200mm f4 manual focus zoom this weekend. I'm keen to experiment with 'old' lenses on the D7200 body. I can only hope the factory warranty does what it's supposed to do.

Welcome to the forum. Hope all works out well. I think that it will, even though you have a little inconvenience at the moment.

Hey Steve,
My first D7200 I bought the first week it was out. It developed probs. Camera froze up. It showed evidence of other bizarre behaviors. Took it back to the big box store. Clerk who fancied himself a Nikon rep and an experienced shooter said that he did not like how hard the lens had to work to find focus.

Got another one. It has issues as well. Freezes up. Will not release. Turn off/ turn on, then it works with same manual settings. I know I am going to have to send it in, just hesitant to let it go. Real slow on spot focus if shot is not real simple.

Pay 1200 bucks and get a refurbished one right back.

good luck.

As of today, it's very close to being solved. Nikon Australia are being very helpful, as are the retailer and the service provider. In the meantime my new 16-80 f2.8-4 arrived yesterday and I have no camera to use it with!

I am very pleased to report that Nikon Australia have agreed to replace the body, and it arrived this morning. A big shout out to the retailer who did all the negotiation with Nikon - Digital Camera Warehouse. If you're in Australia I recommend them highly, very good prices and very fast turnaround on delivery. I have now bought the D7200 body, three lenses and numerous filters from them.

It's terrific news that they replaced the camera body, rather than tinkering with the insides. I'm curious as to whether Nikon Australia operates differently from Nikon USA or even Nikon (Name Your Country/Continent). Does anyone know?
