I have read some reviews on the new D7200 I am wondering if upgrading from the D7000 makes scenes at this time. A few you tube videos seem to say YES I am wondering if I will notice the difference. Feel free to comment

I noticed a difference going from the D7000 to the D7100 so i would say you will notice a difference especially using ISO of 800 and more and off course you will have a larger buffer.

The question is why you wanna upgrade? If I think I am on the limit with my D7000 I will upgrade to a FX I guess. If I keep going with DX th e7200 is my choice

If you 'upgrade' to a D7200, then what happens when there is a D7300, etc.? I'm very happy with my D7000 and plan to keep it a long time. Unless there is something about any newer version that you have to have, why not stay with your D7000 until you reach a point that an upgrade/replacement is definitely needed.

The D7000 is still quite a capable camera. Going to the 7200 would improve ISO performance and larger buffer for your rapid bursts. Of course the 24mp sensor too. But if you are just taking photographs and posting them on the internet somewhere, I don't think you will see much, if any, improvement of image quality. Now if you want to do video, than you will see some very nice improvements in the D7200.

I would probably suggest investing into some nice glass rather than upgrading the camera.

Are you going to see a huge jump in image quality? All other things being equal, no, you won't. You'll get a lot of nice to have features on the D7200 though. And yes you'll have improved dynamic range and a better color depth but that isn't going to make you say, "Wow". I guess it depends on how deeply you want to take your photography. The D7200 *is* a nice upgrade but from the D7000 in my estimation but again, it's more an upgrade in features than it is overall image quality.

Depending on what it is you're seeking to get out of your photography you might be better off getting some really, REALLY good glass; assuming you don't already own some. I know my D7100 didn't really start showing it's true colors until I put the right glass on it and then, wow... What a difference a lens makes. What lenses are you shooting with now?
....

Up graded from 7000 to 7100 about 2 years ago now ..would not even bother to pick up a 7000 now ..waste of time as the IQ on the 7100 is so much better..but of course its how you set it and if you are looking for a RAW or JPEG output.
So yes 7200 if you need the buffer or 7100 if you dont.

I would second Paul's suggestion and look at your lenses... Unless there is a particular feature you want that the 7000 hasn't got & the 7200 has.
What type of shots do you find you take the most?

Thank you for all of the responses. I have two D7000 bodies, I was considering selling one on eBay. I don't see the need to keep both. I did not purchase the D7100 when it came out , I read somewhere that it makes sense to skip a model upgrade. So, now that the D7200 is out I am considering it. I use my camera for equestrian shots (Horses Jumping) and general family shots. I also like birds and eagles. Its not really about the cost, I was hoping to notice some improvements. Its very tempting to want and buy new equipment. I do have some good glass and some OK glass as well. I don't know if I need to go full frame yet , just not sure

I would definitely upgrade to the D7200 in that case. For your action shots like horse jumping and Eagle flying you are going to really appreciate the higher ISO capabilities (we need as much shutter speed as we can get for those shots) and the somewhat larger buffer.

If he has two DX and is going to sell one, I think the D610 instead of the D7200 might be a better choice. For horse jumping or family shots the crop factor isn't needed and he can fill the frame easily with an FX. His low light performance will improve quite some compared to a DX. And the D610 doesn't cost that much more. Here it's about 300€ difference.

For birding he'd still have the D7000 with the crop factor. If he has the glass already, FX might be a good choice.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Do it my friend! I've just got a Nikon d7200 and I LOVE IT! The ISO is just amazing to behold and all the added benefits you get with the upgrade just make you smile ALOT! I'm loving it and on my way camping to do some long exposure shots tonight :)

I went from a 7000 to a 7200 and see a ton of difference. I had pretty much convinced myself that I was going with a used D700 and even found one to buy and noticed the d7200 was released. Sure it still has things I didn't like about the D7000. Size, build quality, small viewfinder, a few missing on camera controls etc.

What it did deliver on was what I wanted to see in a d7xxx upgrade: Sony sensor, Expeed 4 processor, deeper buffer, much better AF system IMO, low light AF and better high ISO performance.

My only complaint was that I had to shoot RAW+JPG for a while until I had a version of LR that supported the RAW files. Its a fun camera to shoot and like I said focus is really nice on this one. Misses are a rarity now compared to the D7000 where I had 15-25% on bursts of moving subjects.
