I use long time this DNG Converter an dit works great. Cos I don't have the D7200 I can't tell you it works or not. But why not, if every other file works it will work th eD7200 nef as well

The DNG converter requires that the camera be supported and the D7200 isn't yet. It's a shame that Nikon doesn't work with a company like Adobe and release their new NEF formats to them in advance so that ACR can be updated in short order after the camera is released. It's not like Nikon's software will ever compete with their image editors. I work with other companies all the time and establishing an NDA so that there are stiff penalties if the new formats are revealed ahead of time, so I don't understand why Nikon won't do it. Canon support seems to come right on the heals of their releases. It's a PITA and one reason I won't buy a body in the first month or two. Even then, I was waiting another 3 weeks with my D750.

The hack is still a hack and alters the original file, which effectively negates any ability for you to use the photo in some competitions where an unaltered original needs to be submitted - unless you keep two copies of everything. Even then, you need to manually edit every photo you want to import. Or use ViewNX to purge off the extras first and then edit and then import. Like I said, PITA.

Hack? LoL It's a work around. A hack would be to to modify your current version of Lightroom to accommodate :)

Same discussion seems to come up whenever a new body arrives before LR has a chance to update.
Convert > Process > Enjoy

FYI - It looks like the DNG converter now supports the 7200. Woot! I don't know if there is anything to PS / Bridge to do it natively there or not.

It does indeed, but in this day and age we should be asking ourselves why this discussion comes up all the time, Adobe are such big players in the photo editing world, they should be working alongside Canon, Nikon, Sony etc so that a camera is supported from day 1.

You wouldn't buy a printer and have to wait weeks for drivers

Hey guys.. I recently bought the D7200 and I came across this problem of which I wasn't aware. I tried the updated now version of dng converter but when I opened the 2 files, one with the converter in dng and one in raw format but changed the exif, I saw that they were looked different unfortunately. I think that the raw was slightly better..
What options do we have since I can't afford buying LR CC and free software don't look so good in my eyes..?

You probably need to go with the ViewNX2 or ViewNX I

Nikon | Download center | ViewNX 2

Nikon ViewNX-i Software | Software for Nikon Digital Cameras

They will both read and do basic editing of your RAW files and they are free
