Interesting. You click on V1 and get Nikon 1 V1 data. You click on Link and get D7100 Firmware. I am guessing that V1 is the correct data!

I don't know why the V1 even came up as a link. It was just the Firmware version for the D7100, V1.05 is the latest for the D7100. I got the email this morning.

I see now, the Nikonites site keyed on the V! to direct to the camera reference which is not what was intended.

I probable won't bother.

Changes from “C” Firmware Version 1.04 to 1.05

  • • Fixed an issue that resulted in live view ending about 10 minutes after being started in Camera Control Pro 2 with [No limit] selected for Custom Setting c4 [Monitor off delay] > [Live view] in the [CUSTOM SETTING MENU].

i have never done this on any of my camera's?

On newer cameras you could be missing out on feature upgrades.

One example of going from 1.30 to 1.40 on z6ll

"Made the following improvements:
  • - The camera focuses more readily on the subject in the center of the frame if it fails to detect the face or eyes of a portrait subject when Auto-area AF is selected for AF-area mode.
  • - Memory recall has been altered so that regardless of the focus mode selected, the focus position chosen via autofocus does not change if the shutter-release button is pressed halfway while memory recall is in effect."

The first thing to check is which version you have and if there any benefit to you by referring to the appropriate down load page.

The firmware update for the D7100 is interesting....for a few reasons...

That bug has been around for a long time, and Nikon suddenly decides to fix it on a camera that's been out of production for many years???? Why? And why now???? There are firmware bugs in newer cameras that are still "available" and Nikon doesn't seem to be fixing those bugs... Why not?

Roy, on the Z Camera Bodies updates are a big deal. They can add enhancements to the focus system or even additional functionality. Some of the updates on the Z6 were significant. One of the last I remember was adding Eye Focus for animals like dogs, birds and such.

It is very easy to do. The directions are very well written on the firmware page. I kind of run through them each time I have an upgrade just to be sure my memory hasn't lost anything.
