Setting F-Stop/aperture manually without MAIN commnd dial?
New here and I have a big issue - my sub-command dial at the rear of my D7100 is no longer working. It's rubbed smooth and spinning without clicking, and I am not in a location where I can get it replaced due to this pandemic. I've looked but can't find a way to manually change it? Might be missing something very simply but never had to do other than use the dial for years! I had the same issue with ISO but found that setting.
Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome!
F5 in your Custom shooting menu allows you to swap the function of the main and sub command dials. You could set both shutter speed and aperture by toggling this function on and off.Last edited by Needa; 01-14-2021 at 02:06 PM.

Thanks for the welcome marilynne & needa.
My error - it's that main dial at the back not the subcommand that isn't working. I think the subcommand is going bad also.
is there a way to change all these settings electronically through the digital menu? I've only found the auto/manal ISo settings but none for setting F-stop manually in there yet.

Normally setting the aperture manually in M or A mode would be accomplished by turning the sub-command dial. There is no way that I know of to accomplish that by using a menu.

Yes I stated my thread title incorrectly - my problem is the main dial at the back that controls shutter speed by default. A workaround currently is setting it to Shutter mdoe as I can adjust the front sub cmd dial (though it feels like it could go at some point).
So now my shutter is fixed but at least I can adjust my aperture and I have put it in auto IS) to a limit to help compensate. usually I'd manually set all three constantly depending on the setings (as I photograph wildlife you can go from shade to bright sun in seconds).
