My D7100 wont record video no matter what i do. I have reset it numerous times. I switch to camera mode, switch on live view, then press the red button. Its recorded many videos before. Any ideas anybody?

Do you have SD cards in both slots? Just grasping at straws since I haven't shot much video with the D7100, but curious if video doesn't go to just one SD card.

Oh, and howdy! Welcome to Nikonites!!!

Nothing happens when i press the record button at all, its not that its not saving video, it just doesnt start. If i had any hair i would be pulling it out.

Have you switched the camera to use video ? A bit obvious but I’ve made that mistake ! Also ensure your sd card is large enough and your battery fully charged.

Was just going to mention this. I never shoot video and rarely use Live View but I stumbled onto this after squeezing off a couple street shots using Live View on my D750 the other day and then noticing that the aspect ratio was all wrong when I imported them. As I went to search for the issue I noticed that the lever around the LV button was on Video and not Camera. Two sides of the same problem.

I do not shoot much video, but my fear would be a bad switch or button. Either could wear out or get stuck. It sounds to me like you might need a shop to look at it, but before I made that trip I would pull the battery or for a while, and then replace it with a fully charged one. This is kind of a last ditch trick I have seen work on other electronic devices.

welcome to the forum... Hope you can get this resolved.

Cheers everyone, the button is on video when i try to record. Im starting to think it might be a dodgy button. Is there any way to assign the record button to another button?

I know you can reassign the Movie button to other functions but I don't know if you can assign other buttons to Record. I don't have a D7100, but on the D750 in the Custom Settings Menu under Movie you can reassign the Shutter Button to Record. I expect this would be the same on the D7100. As I understand it, the shutter button would only do this when in Live View in Movie mode. It would prevent you from being able to shoot images regardless of mode, but perhaps that's what you'd want anyway?

Hi backdoorhippie, yeah, ive tried that and it doesnt work. I'm starting to think it must be the button that flicks from photo to video that is damaged because nothing changes on the live view mode when i flick it.
