Well I retired the D300

And replaced it with a new D7100. The D700 will still be my go-to camera for most work but the D7100 gives me better IQ and ISO performance when using my 300mm and 600mm lenses for nature photography. It may also come in handier for macro work.

Why did you choose the D7100?

WM

It had twice the resolving power of the D300 and far better ISO performance. It will still not be my primary body so I did not see any point in going for the top of the line DX body and the price was right, about $575.

That makes sense.

I had a D7100 for a while and just didn't like it, but I'm the only one that I've seen post here that didn't like the D7100, so it was likely either me or the specific body that I had that was the issue. (Most likely me.)

I'm planning to be in Gainesville next weekend, but my schedule is full with family stuff. If it looks like I can break away for a bit, I'll try to contact you. Most likely, though, is that I might get an opportunity to visit La Chua or Sweetwater for a small amount of time on Saturday. If I make it to either place without getting in contact, I'll look for a photographer carrying "the beast." :)

BTW, do you have any idea how many exposures you shot with the D300?

WM

PS, Have you visited The Hyppo in Gainesville? It's a gourmet popsicle shop that while expensive, is worth a visit every once n a while. If you can tolerate slightly spicy, the Strawberry-Datil pop is really good.

Have not been to the Hyppo, but I will have to try it out. We could hit Sweetwater shortly after sunrise on Saturday, who knows Mom might be there again with the kids. It depends on whether you want to shoot mostly birds or mostly gators. The alligator mating season starts soon, around mid April, so things may be heating up at La Chua!
