The VR seems to work better on this lens than any of my other lens. As you can see-the shutter speed is 1/15. Picture was taken hand held! I really like this lens! I shot the photos in raw and the only post process I did was to level the house. It is only trial photos. Paul

Congratulations. At 35mm (~50mm full frame) that is about 2 stops VR. The specs say VR is good for 4 stops, so you may be able to shoot this at an unbelievable 1/4s! Technique also enters in to this but I was able to shoot my film 50mm at 1/30 hand held and at 1/15 if I leaned against something like a tree or building.

I have been thinking about this lens for a long time now. I would love the new 16-80, but that is way out of my price range.

I currently have the 18-140 and 35 1.8 in my bag. Would I see a major improvement over the 18-140?

They have a used copy at my local camera store for just over $300.

Thanks in advance!

Would you see a big difference in image quality between the 16-85mm versus the 18-140mm? No; not in any practical sense of the word.

I have both the 16-85 and the 70-300. They both are very sharp. I bought the 16-85 due to it's size and also wide angle capabilities. Makes a good combination of lenses. the 16-85 will be my walkaround lens. Paul

I have had the 16-85 for a few years now, its a good performer, for a general walkaround lens for DX, it would be hard to beat.
The wide end at 16 is a bonus, those extra 2mm does make a difference when you need wide.
