Found a gently used d7100 online for $560...actually it was listed at $599, i offered $475, and they countred with $560. I am going to offer $525 for it...should I jump on it at $560? No lens, just the body, battery, charger and a bag...13418 is the shutter count.

Welcome :)

While that seems like a fair deal, I'd consider a Nikon refurbished D7100 body personally. I've seen them as low as $550 recently.

I'm stoked. Wife's gonna be pissed...but...oh well lol. It'll be one of those "but baby, it would have been stupid not to buy it" conversations.

Looks like a I have few days to learn all I can about it...

I did send Adorama an email confirming that it came with a battery and charger...this is the reply I just recieved...

Hi Dave,

Thank you for your recent order and for raising your question about it.

Please be advised that this Nikon D700 you have ordered includes a battery, charger, and instructions within the original box.

If you have any further questions, or require additional assistance please reply to this e-mail.

Thanks for Shopping with Adorama.

So...maybe this guy just typed wrong....I dunno....

Another thing to buy is a good book for the D7100, Darrell Young does a good book called "mastering the D7100"

Also check out youtube for some good videos.

I can't remember offhand, but some of the newer Nikons don't come with a cord for the charger. There is a small wall plug that fastens directly into the charger. So don't be alarmed if it lacks the cord. Hope it all works out for you. It is a terrific camera!

Is there anything to look out for when the camera arrives? First order of business is to slap a lens on it, make sure it works, and then do a shutter count. Also I'll grab a couple of new SD cards while I'm waiting. I've been reading about "cheap screw type glass"....what do yall recommend?

If your really into macro like I am, then a good macro lens would be my suggestion. It just depends on what you can afford really.:)
I had an old Nikkor ai 105mm micro lens that worked pretty good for a start, and got this shot using a D3100!:)

PS There are several good macro lenses out there, and I would suggest looking into those to see what works best on your budget.:)

I agree with my buddy Joe, Adoroma has been good for me too. I bought a Gitzo ball head that cost over $500 without issues not too long ago.:)
Anyway they have good rep and I believe they are good with returns if needed.:)

But I know that excited urgency of wanting new gear to be shipped as soon as I send the money! Lol I hope it gets shipped very soon, and delivered fast for ya!:D

Sorry I was feeding the baby...first meal in the hi-chair....anyways...I did an online chat with a cs rep with them and he said my order had just gotten to the warehouse in NJ, and should be on its way officially later today. So..I'm guessing tuesday or Wednesday next week it will arrive.

They're so confusing! I don't remember there being so many choices 22 years ago! I did see one I'm kind of interested in on KEH website...I'll post up later.

And if I'm understanding correctly, any F mount lens, no matter what the age will work on the 7100 yes?

Not all F mount Nikkor lenses are safe to use. They need to be Nikkor ai lenses or newer. I personally would recommend the Nikkor af-d 105mm f2.8 micro lens. It is cheaper used than the Nikkor AF-S 105mm f2.8 micro ed lens, and it will still auto focus on your new D7100 when needed.:)
