Today i got my Opteka 8mm, that is a full manual lens, (no chip) I should be able to go to the menu and select Non-CPU Lens, set max aperture of 3.5, focal length of 8mm, and load the lens on the body in the f3.5 position and it should recognize what stop it is in, and allow the metering to work correctly, Right? well it always says it is at 3.5. Anyone had this issue.

I would love to be able to use manual lenses, such as the old Non-AIS lenses and old Russian glass like the Helios, but now i am concerned or is it just this lens.

I am using a D7100.

Thanks

very nice and you'll dig the lens. I've got one. depth of field is near forever and the lens is pretty darned sharp. Enjoy it!

I just got my Rokinon 14mm and it is a manual lens also. I did have to set it on f22 to get the metering to work correctly but I am not sure about your lens.

Lets see, 8mm on a DX camera is 12mm. Slightly wider than my 14mm is on my FX. That is wide. The trick to shooting one of the super sides it to make sure you keep the camera completely level in both directions so that the distortion is kept at a manageable level. The one piece of software that I find is indispensable is DxO Viewpoint I makes correcting distortion fast and simple. If you plan on shooting a lot of architecture you will need this. It can be used freestanding or as a plugin to Lightroom which is the way I do it.
