D7100 Buffer size. Does not go beyond 4 on JPG

Me again with what I hope is minor confiugration issue. The buffer on my D7100 on Continuous High does not go beyond [r04], even on JPG Small with the Image Area set to 1.3x. I'm using a fully charged original battery and an empty SanDisk Extreme 45mb/s Class 10 card. Shutter Speed set to 1/8000 f1.8, manual focus, JPEG Compression set to size priority (for test sake), Active D Lighthing set to OFF, auto distortion control set to ON, sRGB. I take a burst and once the buffer goes down to [r00] the frame rate obiously gets very very low.

Any ideas on what could be causing the buffer size to remain so low?

Regardless of the card speed, you should be able to set up the D7100 to start out with far more than 4 shots in the buffer... especially shooting JPEGs. If you haven't taken any photos, and you're at a mere 4 frame buffer, it's a setting on the camera since it doesn't know what your card speed it.

Shooting a small, basic JPEG in DX 1.3x mode, I see a buffer of 97 shots with mine.

I went through this with someone a while ago. Even though I don't have a D7100, there were settings that needed to be done. I will try to find that thread and link it. But it should be noted that the memory buffer on the D7100 I believe is the same size as the D7000. It isn't very big for a 24mp camera, but on my 16mp camera, I get r12 shooting 14-bit RAW. So the max you will see on that is going to be around r7 or r8.

oops, EDIT: Only R4 for JPEGS??? Is the max continuous release setting above 4?
