And It's been raining ever since! Anyway, one thing I have been able to do is take a flash picture and check the shutter count...I was pleasantly surprised to find out it is 447. The people at Nikonusa (refurb dept.) said they had no idea what the shutter count would be but it would "probably be" pretty low. Anyway, this answers one question I've seen on here and that is the shutter count IS NOT reset by Nikon. I've had a chance to start reading the manual which is pretty daunting but I just keep telling myself I don't have to learn everything about this camera all at once, I just have to learn about the features I want to use...the rest will come eventually. Hopefully anyway. All I have to do now is keep reading and wait for a nice day to try it out.

Congrats on the camera, and welcome to the club - With regards to the weather, don't worry.... The D7100 is weather sealed! :)

I've been reading the manual and fiddling along with my camera. I know awesome is such an overused term now days but this IS turning out to be Quite the camera.

Probably my most used feature is the U1 & U2 customisable settings... Such a great feature for things like wildlife and sports.

Good attitude about not having to master everything the first day. Set it up with a basic setup and shoot. Add one feature at the time and shoot till it becomes second natured before you move on ton the next one

Get an umbrella out of the closet and go out and take some pics.

As noted, it's weather sealed. (it's part of the reason I upgraded from a D5100.)

So far, all I know about that is that some people load those settings with a bin file. I haven't got to those modes yet.

Bin file? That must be to import someone else's settings... Just set the camera up for a particular scenario, (Focus mode, metering mode, shutter priority etc) then in the settings menu, "Save as U1"... Next time you set U1 on the mode dial, you get all of those settings. It even covers role of slot 2 etc!

Hi Steve, yes, the bin file was to import someone else's settings. Actually, this camera has so many automatic modes it will be a while until I learn what I should customize to make any improvements over the preprogrammed settings. The selections in "scene" mode seemingly cover about every situation. Frankly, I wish there weren't so many choices to make. It seems worse right now to because it's still raining and I can't put much into practice just yet. So for now, it's back to reading the manual.
