Oh is it!! I always thought it will be on the body. Does the lens have any provision to connect strap? If its the 70-200 2.8 the strap will need to be on the lens as it will be heavier than the camera.

I am looking into purchasing a BlackRapid CrossShot for use with my D7100. My question is when carrying the D7100 with the 70-200 attached, would you attach the strap to the body or the lens?
I concur, use the tripod mount on the GLASS.
Have you tried on a crosshot strap yet? I'm 6' as is my father. I bought a SHOT for him last year, had to return it as it felt too short. Not sure about the Crossshot.
I have the 70-200/d7100/carry-speed strap. I connect the strap to the carry-speed camera plate mounted on the camera. I can walk around with it just fine. It lays nicely at my hip. The only time I would consider mounting the bracket on the lens is if I had a 500 - 1000 mm type of BIG telephoto lens.
I've chatted with Black Rapid about this exact issue. They strongly recommend connecting to the lens in this case.I have the 70-200/d7100/carry-speed strap. Just a guess, but... I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that's because the lens barrel is a much sturdier mount-point.I've chatted with Black Rapid about this exact issue. They strongly recommend connecting to the lens in this case.
Perhaps. I'm not very confident hanging that gear from the tripod mount myself. I have yet to hang my 70-200 from my sling since I bought it, it's been hand held with a wrist strap each time so far.Just a guess, but...
