Weird error message

Yesterday I was taking pictures with my D7100 and Sigma 50-150 f/2.8 attached. A few times (perhaps four out of a hundred shots) a strange error (?) message appeared on the top control panel. The bigger letters in the top middle of the panel said "Good" (and this was flashing), while in the bottom right corner it said "Pre". The monitor at the back of the camera was black and didn't show the preview (it is set to show a preview). The picture was not saved to the SD card. The entire shot felt absolutely normal: focusing and shutter release. When I repeated the shot, everything was fine.

I checked all the error messages listed in the D7100 manual, but this one is not there. I'm not even sure if this is an error, as it says "Good". On the other hand, the image is not saved to the card, so I suspect something went wrong.

Anyone experienced this before?

You're pressing the wrong sequence of buttons. You've triggered the White Balance feature somehow... The "Good" means you've taken a "good" white balance image. And the "Pre" means the camera is waiting to take a new White Balance image...

Read your manual on "setting a Custom White Balance"...

Oh dear, I've been pressing a button with my nose again. I used to accidentally press the ISO button and switch between fixed and auto ISO before. I know about it now and can recognise when it happens.

This time, perhaps because this is a much bigger lens than my standard 17-50, I must have held the camera differently and pressed the WB button with my nose while turning one of the dials to--what I wanted to do--adjust the aperture.

Thanks a lot, Fred, I would have never guessed it myself!
