Nikon D7100 and Sigma 70x200 auto focus issues?

I have a nearly new D7100 that I have taken many photos with using my sigma 70x200. Recently it took a notion not to auto focus or become erratic in auto focus and shutter release. Other lens that I put on the camera work fine. So I decided the lens HSM is prob bad and send it in for repair. I have a friend that is a Professional Photographer so He loans me his Sigma 70x200. Had same issue. :nightmare: Again all other lens work fine. So I went back to my friend he puts his sigma on his D700 works fine. :hurt: Pulls his Tamron 70x200 puts on my body works fine. Switches his lens back to my body no work. I put another lens back on works fine. I have reset camera. Battery fully charged. Any Idea's?? Thanks for your help

Perhaps a firmware update is needed? I don't know if this is applicable to your particular lens, but some current model Sigma lenses can have their firmware updated using a Sigma USB dock. It's just a thought, but that's something you can look into. I presume the Sigma repair facility you sent your lens to will do that anyway (assuming there's an update to be done). How recent is your lens?

I've had the same issue using the same body and lens. What I experience is a lack of control of shutter speed. The only workaround I have found is to make sure my settings are saved on the SD card and to do a reset by holding down the exposure compensation button along with the "negative" magnifying glass button. Power cycle the body and load the saved settings from the SD card. I might be wrong so don't take this as gospel, but if I remember correctly the Sigma dock does not work with all of the lenses. You'll have to check the specks on their website for that.
