Anyone have this book?: "Mastering the Nikon D7100" by Darrell Young

First I would have to say I am a newbie to both my D7100 and this forum.

I have been trying to figure out a few things about the camera using this book. First I have been trying to understand the procedure for setting up User settings in User 1 and User 2. On page 57 he talks about how to save the exposure modes along with the various custom settings, shooting menu, etc.

Could someone explain this a bit more to me? I called Nikon tech support but I couldn't explain it right.
Any help would be very welcome..

Thanks,

Mikro

I don't have a D7100, but the best info might be in the D7100 manual. Pages 55 and 56 seem pretty clear.

Says: Select mode and some certain settings..
Then Select menu (Setup menu) and save User 1 or User 2.

Says it works for camera modes A S P M, implying it does not work for Auto.

Recall settings by selecting User 1 or User 2 on top dial.

Just set up your camera up for a particular situation and if you like it, save it to u1 or u2. Pretty much EVERYTHING gets saved and returns when you select u1 or u2 next time.

All you need to do is find a combination of settings you want to be able to recall by using U1 or U2 on the Mode dial. For instance, I have U1 set up for shooting RAW and U2 set up for shooting RAW + JPG. Configure the camera however you want bearing in mind your shooting mode P, S, A or M will be saved like any other setting, so remember to be *IN* that shooting mode when you save your settings. For example, if you want to save Aperture Priority mode to U1, be *IN* Aperture Priority mode when you save your settings to U1. Other things such as ISO settings, card slot configuration, white balance settings, metering mode will also be saved to either U1 or U2 when you use the "Save to" option in the menu; so again, make sure ALL the settings you want to use in U1 or U2 are your current settings before saving to U1 or U2.

Once a configuration is saved to U1 or U2, you can change the settings on your camera all you want but moving the Mode dial back to the U1 or U2 setting will recall all the stored settings assigned to that mode.

Hope that helps.

I highly recommend David Busch's "Guide to the Nikon D7100". Can't go wrong with this easy to read and digest book...plus he covers a lot of extras that have a lot to do with photography in general. Great book.

Having moved to a D7500, I included this book with my trade-in of the D7100 & now cannot recall the author's suggested settings for shooting birds.
It was a ½ page in the Focusing Section (I think) & was a fantastic resource.
If anyone has the book & would be willing to scan/photograph the page & send it to me ([email protected]), I would be thrilled.
Thanks,

I once had a book for the D7100, it had several major errors in it. Obviously a manuscript (poorly) edited to apply to several cameras. I only remember that the author was a lady.
