Questions about new D7100...

Hello all, very excited as I finally bit bullet and got my D7100 this morning. Just a few questions right off the bat - where are these cameras built? I was under the impression they were made in Japan, but the camera box says this camera was built in Thailand. Also, is there any way to determine what the build date was from the serial number? Just now charging up the battery - as I said, just opened the box! :excitement: This will replace my D70s but I will definitely be hanging on to the D70 as a backup. Just so excited!

Built in Thailand. Don't worry about serial number, check out how many actuations have been fired through your D7100.

Thanks SB - I bought this brand new from Best Buy, so there should be 0-low number of actuations, correct? I'm guessing they do take a few shots at the factory to make sure everything is working. Do those count in the actuation number? I know, silly questions, but I do appreciate your input.

Shutter actuations are recorded in the EXIF data. Do not use the file numbering system as it can easily be reset in the Menus.

Find an EXIF reader like Opanda and it will tell you how many clicks are on the camera.

Thanks ShootRaw! Looking forward to learning about this camera. Another question, this one about extended warranties. I purchased this camera at Best Buy. Does Nikon offer an extended warranty or should I get one through BB. Do I need one?

Really a personal choice. I generally never buy extended warranties. In my thinking if it is going to go bad then it will generally do so in the first few months. But then again I have had it backfire on me.
