Hey guys so this is my first time posting in this forum. I am travelling to the States in the next 2 weeks for vacation and I am debating which set of lens I need to bring. I know these kind of question are being asked numerous time but i just want some opinion on this particularly selection to see if it is a good idea. I am shooting with a D7100. The following list is what I have :12-24mm F/4, 24-70mm F/2.8, 70-300mm F/4.5-F/5.6, 35mm F/1.8 and 18-55mm F/3.5-F/5.6. The following lens is what I am planning to bring : 12-24mm F/4, 35mm F/1.8, 70-300mm F/4.5-F/5.6. Most of the places that I will be visiting are tourist attractions, ranging from the Las Vegas Strip to San Diego Zoo. Any comments or suggestions will be awesome. Thanks in advance. :)

My initial reaction was to tell you to bring it all so you could get your workout while on vacation but. . . this sounds like a good setup. Since you will be in tourist areas, just make sure your kit isn't too large/heavy to leave in the car. Vegas will be hot so that is another consideration. While in Vegas are you planning to go to Hoover Dam or the Grand Canyon? If so, I think you might want to bring the 24-70 instead of the 35mm. Have a great trip!!

Welcome to Nikonites! Enjoy your trip....we were in Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, and San Diego last year. I would recommend your 24-70, and 12-24 at the minimum! Have fun!

Of the lenses you have, those are the ones I would bring if I were making this trip.

Also, as a long time resident of the San Diego area, I might suggest you check out the San Diego Zoo "Safari Park" located about about an hour north of San Diego (maybe a little less) up here in Escondido, CA. I know the SD zoo is world famous and so it gets all the attention but you'll probably have a smaller crowd and you stand to get better shots of animals at the Safari Park since the animals are in really big, wide-open enclosures that replicate their natural environment (meaning your won't be shooting from behind or through bars/cages). Obviously I don't know if your itinerary allows for it, but it's definitely something to consider if it does.

At least one wide angle for the fantastic landscapes and one long zoom for those animals...
