Here is an authentic test of card speed in a D7000

Rob Galbraith DPI: Nikon D7000 (select D7000 if necessary)

D7000 and D7100 card interfaces are both UHS-1, but I don't know if the cameras are same speed?

You really only need card write speed if using burst mode for large file formats.

We always need fast read speed at the computer. :)

I understand that read on USB2 isn't that fast, so to benefit from anything above 30mbs (?) would need USB3
What is important to me wi write speeds, and the class 10s - and 10 is highest - simply means a MINIMUM write speed of 10mbs.
What I can say is that the 95mbs cards I use get the full 100 shots consecutively at 7fps when set up - this setup is shown in another thread.

The Gailbraith test shows the D7000 is not faster then 30 MB/sec with any card, but you may want a USB 3.0 reader for the computer upload.

Another question...Do you have to format Brand New memory cards?

Put it in the camera, and format it there.

It will likely work OK if you don't, but why not do it right?

D7100 manual

Page 30: Format memory cards before first use (see page 32).

The card may ship with a file recovery software utility on it, which will be lost at format, so you may want to copy it to the computer first, in case of corruption problems later.

I use the Lexar 400X 32GBx2 cards. It is a bit of overkill on write speed for this camera. If you shoot RAW use 14 bit over 12 bit. The D7100 tops out at 6 frames per second in burst mode, so most class 10 cards should work fine. Cards have come down in price, I would recommend getting at least a 64GB card. I shot a little league game this past weekend in 14 bit RAW, mostly burst mode. In 3 plus hours, I shot over 1480 pics which filled my first card and about 35% of my second card.
