My Photography Site!

Hey guys,

Fellow D7100 owner here and I wanted to share the site I created.. Yusko Photography

I plan on evolving the site as time goes on of course, it took me a few weeks to design it and bring it to the point where it is now where I am sharing it with the public. I have an iMac at home that I do all my work on, I used Freeway Express which at first seems too simple but the amount of customization you can do is pretty unreal even in the Express model (they have a pro with added features). Totally free form if you opt to not use a template like myself.

Would love to hear some feedback if anyone has some.. My drive to do this was purely out of the growing interest with photography.. I work full time in an unrelated field this is just a hobby that if it takes off to be any kind of business venture it would just be a side thing.

Welcome..If I could comment on your website..On your about page I would recommend taking off the camera equipment..It takes away from your story about you..Also I would suggest labeling you Portrait title to "Children" They are more snapshot type pics versus Portrait pics..Other then that you are off to a great start...

Nice clean site. Quite modern. I agree with ShootRaw's comment too. I wouldn't use "Children" either - make that a sub-topic under an ad-hoc photos heading. You'll be adding adults, babies, flowers, pets etc etc in due course, so sub headers now save time later...

Appreciate it! Yeah, the about me page was awkward for me to do I wasn't sure what to include and what not to include. I do agree that it takes away from the story, thanks for pointing it out.

RE: Portraits.. Okay cool.. I see what you're saying, as they are all pictures taken out of a studio and children are the subjects. I recently just bought a ton of equipment for my niece's 13th bday party for a studio setup that will have to remain portable due to the space it takes up.. Backdrop, the support, flashes for the background, and another off camera so I have a square setup (2 up front 2 behind) and I am going to see how it goes with her party and my brother had the idea of throwing stickers on the back of the 8x10s I will print of them to advertise and get more portrait exposure.. I anticipate it coming out nicely, I spent a lot of time deciding what to get with the help from BH Photo and I feel pretty confident when framing a shot but we shall see!

Thanks again though I do appreciate your time in commenting since this is my first venture into this kind of thing.

Thanks for the idea. I agree that would be great for in the future in terms of flexibility.

I liked the modern design I looked a few photog websites to get the idea on which way I wanted to go and I felt like less is more with this kind of site. The purpose is to get people viewing the pictures not to be sifting through too much added noise to distract.

I knew posting here was a good idea :D

Look into squarespace..You can use a discount code from Jared Polin or Tony Northup for 10% off.. Its like $86 for the year with discount..

How much does a website like that cost per month? Just curious. I was thinking down the road ......so I'd have an idea!

I bought the domain (.photography) for 14.95 via United Domains.. I'm using iPage to host which is $46 for two years.. Then the Freeway Express program is $50 (you wouldn't need this with squarespace since I think you're paying for template design there..)

So it's not really that expensive given the grand scheme of things with this hobby :p

When taking photos of people (especially: children on the move) one has to be careful not to "overlap" two guys and/or certain objects which interfere with each other (those two basket players). It is not enough to have nice kids and a suitable environment.
Good landscapes - number 4 being my favorite.
Good site.

Rather than portraits or lots of sub headings for Adults, Children etc - just make the heading "people" perhaps.

Nice clean site - navigation is simple too.

Good start!

Yeah, I know what you mean.. You know why I had to include those? They felt left out bc of the other nephews were on the site LOL.. Appreciate the compliments though I know it will continue to grow as time passes and with the help of the forum!

First thank you for the comments and I like that idea of people.. Good stuff thanks! Maybe what I'll do is after I do my first photo studio type shoot for my niece's 13th bday under People I can have a subsection for Portraits since those will be more formal portrait shots..

Best idea posting here :D

Sorry to hijack your thread with the cost question. I really like your website and it's simplicity.

All good, I don't think you hijacked it at all.. Good questions because I went into this flying blind so I know it would be useful info to those who are curious.. When I bought the domain I didn't even know you then needed a host haha.. You certainly learn a lot about website publishing if you do it this way..

Thanks again

My 2 comments are both usability issues.

First when going through the pictures in each of your portfolios, the forward/back/pause buttons disappeared for any portrait (vs. landscape) orientation photos. I am using the latest version of Chrome and did not try any other browsers to see if that was the issue.

Second, when moving through the images, it would be nice if the frame always stayed the same size (and the forward/back/pause buttons remained in the same place) no matter what size the photo was. That way you could position the mouse on the forward button, and click through the pictures keeping your concentration on the photos themselves rather than having to shift focus between the photos and the navigation buttons.

There is a broken link maybe . From main page, select, from the menu at the bottom, Portfolio / Events. Then from events, use the horizontal menu at the top, try Portfolio / Portraits. Et can't find the link

I see you changed the menu to 'People'.

Yep, two known issues. Thanks for pointing it out though, I do need to work on both of those things to see if I can fix them.

I did indeed.. I also reorganized the menus to have the Portfolio be the first thing after home per recommendation of someone on another forum (car forum with photo section) with some good advice coming from there as well.

Ah thanks for the heads up on the link.. From Travel I couldn't get back to People.. Just have to update that one css menu. Thanks! :)
