    Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse tonight

Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse tonight!!! From what I understand, you will only be able to see it in the Americas. It starts 2 am on the East coast 11 pm in my area. Will be using my D7100 and 55-300mm (wish I had at least a 1.4 tele!). I've shot stars and the moon during dusk. Any camera setup suggestions for shooting the moon when its super bright? I have ND filters but not sure it they will help???????

Should be a good one but I doubt you'll be needing any filters

As for settings, I suggest you use spot metering and shoot it in RAW format since no one is quite sure what temperature the "blood" moon will be.

    Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse tonight
I shot the Super Moon with my D7000 and 70-300 @300, ISO 100, f/16 and 1/20 sec, spot metering in June of last year. Rather than getting up in the middle of the night, I'm thinking about coloring this one red.

If your shooting off a tripod be sure to turn your VR off.

We'll be able to see it in Aust too but at 5.45pm, which is a much more civilised hour Just hope a) the clouds disappear before then and b) I actually remember it is going to happen.

The moon will be in shadow, so the usual full moon exposure settings won't work.

Set your white balance at 4760K. And do test shots before as the light metering will be off... a lot. Don't overexpose, easy to do, and lose the detail. I'm planning to shoot with both my D600 and D7100. Each has advantages.

Don't forget to weight your tripod and I'm also going to rest something with a little weight, maybe a bad of rice, on the camera to help weight it down for the longer exposures during the actual eclipse.

UV filter off if you have one one. Lens hood on.
