Tokina RMX 2X teleconverter lens Doubler Nikon Ai lens manual focus on my D7100?

hi guys! Can someone tell me, if I can use a "Tokina RMX 2X teleconverter lens Doubler Nikon Ai lens manual focus" on my D7100, without damaging anything? It is supposed to be used with my Nikon 70-300mm VR. ANy help will be most appreciated! To be more specific, it is that "AI"-thing, I´m wondering about.

Cheers from Denmark,
Carsten

The short answer is no. If I understand you correctly you want to use a teleconverter designed for manual focus Ai type Nikon lenses on an AF-S VR 70-300mm G lens, correct? Not only will you not have autofocus, but you will not have any aperture control with any "G" lens.

You got it right, my friend. And I got it wrong :) So instead, can you recommend any telekonverter, that will work with my G-lens? If any? And being on a budget; a cheap one? :-D

Don't put any teleconvertor on that 70-300 VR lens or you'll turn a great lens into a piece of junk. Even a 1.4 convertor is not good as the quality degrades and the autofocus will either struggle or not work. I'm speaking from a position of previously owning one.

I recently got the Kenko 2x TC and I have used it with my 18-300 lens. Whilst you have to focus manually it has doubled me to up to 600mm. I took the moonshot on here (page 28, from memory: http://nikonites.com/low-light-night/2361-moon-shots-28.html#axzz2tNzfcwGv) using that. Although it hasn't yet been used much I see no real problems so far. I am used to manual focus as the D3100 isn't man enough to drive AF on that lens, whereas my newer D7100 bitch slaps its way through!

Just while we are on the subject, a teleconvertor can not be used on the Nikon 18-300mm lens either. I think the reason is that the rear glass in the lens is too close to the end.

Yes you can. See my post immediately before yours! Are you thinking of something else, like a lens reverser?

Please see this question and answers from this other site regarding 18-300mm compatibility with TC's:Nikon TC-14E II: Nikon SLR Lens Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review
Thank you, but I don't need to. I am happy with my lens and TC combo (not a Nikon TC). This a photo I recently posted in the moon thread:

So... What´s the final answer to my original question? :) Will I be able to use the Tokina RMX 2X Ai(for Nikon) on my 70-300 VR AF-S G? Or is there another converter, which works like a charm in combo with that specific lens?
