Distortion control data firmware update 1.009 released

Hello James,

It all depends on the way one perceives things…

A manufacturer of optical and fine mechanic devices knows exactly (or should) in
which conditions, parameters, and tolerances a given product has left production.
This manufacturer knows best all there is to know about the technologies implied
and the eventual adaptations to new conditions in which the product will used.

Your post-production software (or mine) are applying corrections after the fact. An
update will apply new parameters tweaks directly in, and exactly for, the camera-lens
combination you are using.

Software are applying their effect on the RAW files once they are out of the camera.
Don't you wish to have the best RAW files possible before they are transferred to
your computer?

Have a good day…

Thanks Kodiak couldn't see the point when i don't use the camera for post image correction, but I guess it sort of makes sense, and yes indeed sir, I Do want the best my raw can do :)

Just like you James, I don't wish my cameras to perform "onboard" any kind of
post-processing to my RAWs. However, I wish the my RAWS to reflect all possible
optimization my three cameras and the many lenses combinations may bring.

Is this applicable only if you let the camera do the processing? I use Lightroom 5, so what's the point?

You have to keep in mind that not every Nikon user will post process their photos. There are probably far more people who just take what comes from the camera, then there are people who post process to any extent.

Has anyone with a Mac Pro had trouble downloading and installing the firmware update 1.009
When i go to menu and firmware it shows c1.01 firmware and for l 1.008.
It won't let me click on the L 100.8 so i can update,so what i'm doing wrong.
I have the D7100.
Thanks

You don't have to click on anything... Simply highlite the 'Update' menu and press ok... If you copied the correct file to the root of the SD card, the camera will read the file, and update the proper register...

No that didn't work i think its not downloading to the card, cause everytime i hit update the D7100 camera firmware update comes up on c not L

Now I'm getting a e in viewfinder and on the top one also.

Start over. As soon as you regain control of the camera, format the SD card in the camera.

You should download a .DMG <--this is a Mac type package file... Clicking on this should prompt you to install an application... running the application creates a Nikon sub folder with the BIN file in it...

Remove the SD card from the camera, and insert in computer... Copy the above BIN file to the SD card...

Remove SD from computer and put in camera. Turn on camera. Goto Firmware update menu option. and select Update... The update will only take a few seconds, and you should get a message that the update is complete, and to Turn Off the camera...

Be sure your battery is fully charged before beginning the update otherwise the camera will abort the update and tell you to charge the battery...

Well when i do that it wants to update the number c which is 1.01 update from a month ago.
Cause i drag the file too the card reader and it says it has it, but then i go to camera and it doesn't have it.

It keeps trying to update the previous C101 because it sees the BIN file for that update on the SD card... delete it from the card...

Be sure you're copying the correct file to the SD card... it should be D7100_0101.BIN <--- or some such..I probably have too many zeros... mine is a D600

Well now I can't even get to it. As soon as i press the menu button in the viewfinder it goes off can't even get over to the select
button to get to firmware so is something causes this to turn off as soon as you select menu button?
Thanks
