Hello All,

Hopefully somebody can help becase its driving me crazy at the moment.

When i first bought my camera (d7000 with 18-200mm Nikon lens) when i pressed the shutter release the camera seemed to try and autofocus (so you could see the picture go blurry then clear through the view finder)
Stupid me gave my friend access who fooled around with the settings and now i simply cant find how to turn it back on, or where the setting is to enable or disable this.

Ive tried changing some of the autofocus settings without success.
Lens M/A OR M set to M/A
Body AF OR M set to AF

Can anybody please please advise where i can enable or disable this?

Any help would be great.

You might want to reset all of your settings back to the factory default if a bunch of them inadvertently were changed. I believe you just hold down the QUAL( on the rear of the camera) and the +/- buttons (on the top of the camera) together for more than two seconds and the camera will be reset to its default factory settings. You will notice a green dot next to each of those buttons. You can also look this up in your manual.

HAVE A LOOK IN THE MENU IN THE CAMERA FOR THE AUTO FOCUS SECTION THEN TRY AF-C or AF-S..

I use AF-C...With this setting if your subject or you move the camera will continue to auto focus...

If this doesn't work you might have to take it to pro to help you sort it out...

If your mode dial on the top of your camera is set to "M" it will not focus automatically and only work if you manually focus. Try placing it on the green auto setting and see if it works. Jeff

HI All,

Still stuck, did some research and apparently when i press the AF mode button between (on the front of the camera body) and use the dial on the right hand side (main command dial) im supposed to be able to change the autofocus settings from AF-C to AF-S and this should be visible on the control panel. Nothing changes when i do this (i.e. i cant see the AF-S or AF-C on the control panel at all). BTW i have the Mode dial on Auto. Could it have something to do with the AE-L/AF-L Button??

Still stumped...

ANy other suggestions?

In Auto or P mode, the camera controls everthing for you. In Auto, it normally uses the pop up flash.

Go outside during daylight, use S mode, then use your command dial to adjust the shutter speed. Make sure your EV is at 0.

On you lens it should be M/A. ON your body, it should be AF.

Are you keeping the AF button depressed while rotating the main command dial? If not , it won't work. You have to hold down the AF button while rotating the main command dial. Then you will see those options on the LCD appear. I hope this helps. It's so easy to make that error. That is why I asked.

Did you also try going in to the shooting menu and resetting? The shooting menu has a separate reset which I didn't think to mention. Go into the shooting menu and select the rest option that is listed there. That will reset any changes you've made there since you have already tried the two button reset.
