What do you think of this case?

Since I just recently got a 18-300mm lens (my ONLY) lens, and no immediate plans to buy more for the moment, I was looking at a nice case to take just my camera with me on my photo outings. right now I have a Digital Holster 20 that works fine, but I find it a little too bulky for carrying just my camera. And maybe is just the nostalgia, but I've always wanted to have a 35mm camera with a leather case... which I never ended up getting.

So, here's the case I've found:

Here's my Digital Holster, which I use with the bottom zipper closed, as I don't need the extra length:

The leather case is custom designed for the D7000 (they have several versions available) and will accommodate my camera along with the 18-300 lens. The fit and finish looks superb, and the thing I like (and here lies the main question) is that the camera actually rests on the upper lip of the holster, where your fingertips hold the camera when you are gripping it, avoiding the weight of the camera to rest on the end of the lens. Is this a better way to let the weight of the camera rest on, or would it be better to rest the weight at the end of the lens like it does on my Digital Holster?

By the way, you can use it with the cover attached, or the cover removed and brace it to the case using just the top strap. This case is NOT screwed to the camera, it is just a holster where you can simply draw your camera out while keeping the case hanging from your shoulder. Also, this will let me remove the camera strap, making that one less thing to fumble with while taking pictures. Also, I would use the small pouch to carry my remote control, or an extra battery, or even a shower cap in case of rain.

I found this case at skytoptrading and costs $385. Yes, I know it is expensive, but I just can't get over how nice it looks!

Please, let me know what you think...

It's very nice looking, although a bit flashy. I think the weight on the handle is fine. I like the design and the simple strap for when you don't have the cover on. I use a think tank holster which I like but it is not as slim as that. I use a small wrist strap for security and it does not interfere with the holster.

That sure is a nice rig and if your pockets can handle it I say go for it. That's the price for another lens for me or a flash so unfortunately I won't be purchasing one. Damn it does look downright sexy though.

Now that you mention it, I plan on using a small wrist strap too if I buy this case.

I just checked out the website, I really like the black. Lots of money, but looks like very high quality and would last a lifetime!

The brown does have a very classy and classical look to it, reminds me of my dad's camera bags when I was a kid. I think the black one will get less attention, but the brown sure is classy!!

I don't think you can go wrong with either one. They are both really nice. Wowsa and expensive too. Pick the tan and be different

Not to be the only wet blanket but I can go to KEH and get a used EX grade Nikon D200 for just $30.00 more than this case!

Don't get me wrong. This is a very nice case but the odds of me EVER having one is an absolute ZERO!

Nice case, as far as cases go. I use my gear a case would just get in the way. A little bit of advice you don't want to take that with you traveling - your camera becomes a "neon sign" saying "steal me"

Nice looking case, brown is the color I'd choose, too. For what its worth, your Holster is more practical.I myself have the DH50 and use it all the time, for storage or transportation. If I could afford the leather case,I'd get it .LOL Joe

Yup, like Sam said....it just screams "Steal Me!" Use your money for good glass instead. You already have a good case for your camera. That case isn't gonna give you better pictures, but good glass will. Be practical. :)

Certainly looks the part. Reminds me of the leather work my hubby used to do. They look quality items; black vs tan? Tan will mellow with age and use. Cheers

Wow, thank you for all your comments!

Looks like the brown is the clear winner, although I see some concerns due to security. Well, this may not be of much concern since I normally take my camera around safe places, and incase of doubt, I guess I will keep the digital holster around too.

Cheers!

Alex.
