So my Friend Mr. D7000 is finally back from Nikon.... IM super excited. I feel as if the issue has been resolved for the most part. My new 50mm works flawlessly, however Im still having a little bit of an issue with my 35mm 1.8. though its a ton better and I think if I new how to properly calibrate the lens it would be fine too.

Heres a shot from today shot with the 35mm.

Anyone have any suggestions on fine tuning that 35mm? or any tips on focusing?

Once you've completed the fine adjustment and entered the data on the camera, it will remember that particular lens unless you are using a non-chipped lens such as the Nikon MF Ai lenses.

Has anyone fine tuned a lens on this camera... is it difficult?

It's really not that difficult, maybe 20 minutes to half an hour depending on how long it takes you to set up the shot to check the focus. Just make sure you use a tripod to start with.

I had always noticed some focusing issues with mine, but assumed it was user error, poor lighting, lack of knowledge about the AF system in the D7000, but I have been doing a lot of testing lately and I am starting to think I have at the very least a calibration issue.

Glad to hear that Nikon fixed your issue - how did you know for sure it was the camera body itself? Just by sending it in?

i called them, and they made me send in multiple photos, and found that it was the body.
Then they had me send it in.

Can I ask which 50 mm you have? I've been considering either a 50 or 85mm to add to my bag. I was concerned that the 35 was not "different" enough from the 35 I already have. Any thoughts?

Since you already have the 35 1.8, I'd strongly recommend going for the 85 - a more pronounced difference (and imho a more useful combination) than having the 50.

The new 85 1.8G is getting RAVE reviews for it's image quality. In fact I've seen a thread in another forum saying they regretted getting the 85 1.4G (a VERY expensive lens) instead of getting the 85 1.8G. Sounds like an exciting lens to pick up. In fact the older 85 1.8D is an exceptionally sharp lens too with slightly faster AF than even the new 85 1.8 (however the CA is better controlled in the new version).

Thanks! Do you know, is it available now? I know it was announced to be available in March, but I haven't seen it anywhere yet.

I haven't seen it available either (except for pre-order - B&H, Amazon, etc.). I know there are images posted around taken with the 85 1.8G (presumably from Nikon) - not sure when it will hit the stores. Should be very soon. The 85 1.8D can be had used for $275 to $300 - amazing deal for such a good lens. I think the 85 1.8G is going for $500 (before tax)....not bad either.
