D7000 overexposing?

Having just bought a D7000 I now read a lot of comments about it constantly overexposing. Is this a fact? or it's not being used properly. Please bear in mind that I am a relative newby to digital SLR's.

Thanks

Shot with one for 2+ years before upgrading and never noticed. As said I suspect it's user error. Get to know your metering modes and how to use them and you'll be fine.

I never had any issues. Assuming this is a used camera, I suggest you reset it and work from there. You don't want some obscure setting from the previous owner coming back to haunt you. Do the 2 button reset. That does not do everything so also reset the shooting menu and the custom menu.

Long time ago now but i have a feeling mine was about half a stop out, it was consistent so i just dialed the adjustment in and left it.

Thanks, how do I reset the shooting and custom menus?

As Jake wrote, you've got to learn the different metering modes and which one to use depending on what your subject is.
I'd risk to say that the metering mode that can really throw off your exposure is the spot metering mode. Depending on where the spot is reading, the exposure can vary from great to no good at all within the same scene.
