Problems with recording photos in Nikon D7000

I use Nikon D7000 camera and I never have problem with my 8 GB SDHC cards. I had the same problems with SanDisk 16 GB SDHC cards in the past and recently with 128 GB SDXC cards; I had found some of my photographs were not recorded/ saved in those memory cards so I lost my important clicks. I need to go to some really remote places of Himalayas for taking pictures for many days, so I always need memory cards with higher capacities. Is this the problem with my camera hardware/ software or with memory cards or my camera not supporting higher capacity memory cards? Up to which highest capacity of SDXC memory cards can I use in my camera? I have never updated firmware/ software after buying my camera in 2010. Do I need to update them to resolve this problem? Can I do the updates by myself? Sorry for too many questions and thank you so very much in advance for your kind and valuable feedback.

Welcome to the forum, not easy to pin down the reason for your problem,do you take rapid shots, are the missing shots single or from a sequence.

Welcome to the forum.
Are you formatting the cards in the camera after you have downloaded the card. I know that is a simple but it is important.

Are the pictures not there when viewing in the camera or when you download? Do you remove the card to download or are you trying to go directly from the camera to a computer?

Yes, from the camera to computer...There were so many photos, so I did not check on my camera, but I did not find some of them in my PC after copying...Thank you so very much for your response :)

It's very difficult if not impossible to determine what your problem could be from the info you've given us. But sometimes the camera will make different folders on the SD card and maybe, just maybe, you are not copying all the folders???
Or maybe you leave the copy process before it's finished?
One more thing (not sure about this one) is to let the computer erase the picture after the download. This should be avoided at all cost until you have verified that all the images were indeed copied.

If you save raw files on one card and jpegs on the other, maybe you could go back and get the jpegs from the card unless they were erased after the download process.

Having written this, I NEVER connected my camera to the computer. I've always used a card reader, removed the card from the camera and then manually copied the files to the computer. ONLY after verifying that all the images were properly copied, I will then re-format the card IN THE CAMERA using Nikon's menu to format. So far, I've never lost an image using this method. I guess it's too late for the images that you lost, but if using a different method can prevent you from loosing some more, then it would be worth it to get a card reader.

Best of luck with your upcoming trip.

Enjoy your Nikon.
