Hallo, anyone who has a D7000 combined with a Tokina 12 28 f/4? I'd like to discuss a focus item with the combo...

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.
We look forward to seeing more posts and samples of your work.

I agree with Roy, post your question. While we may not have the exact same hardware, we still may be able to help you.

Here is my question. I am under the impression that my pictures taken with the Tokina are not very Sharp. I don 't know whether that is due to the lens or to the D7000.

Here is a sample. I focussed on the tress but they lack sharpness.

Did you handhold the camera or use a tripod?
If you handheld, 1/25 could have contributed to camera movement causing softness of the image. You probably could have used f8 or f10 and iso200 and got a higher shutter speed more suited to handholding. If you have a tripod that can help to get sharper photos as well.

I use a Tokina 11-16 f2.8, with good handholding technique I could probably get acceptable images at 1/25, but I would aim for a higher shutter speed if handholding if possible. And to be honest, I don’t think there is much need to use an aperture narrower than f11 with such a wide angle lens, going narrower is probably going to be detrimental to image quality.

Thank you for the advice. I did use a tripod.
I will try to take the same picture with a different aperture and faster shutter speed.

I intend to go Friday to the same place to take picturs with wider aperture. I will keep you informed. Thank you very much for the help.

Do you have another lens you can use? If so I would also take the same picture with that lens at the same F stop as the 12-28mm lens. If both pictures are blurry, then it is a problem with either the camera or your technique. If only the 12-28mm picture is blurry, then you may have a lens problem.

When you try again, try a few different things as well. If you are using your tripod, use a cable release or the delayed shutter timer, and also try with mirror up. This should result in sharper images.
How solid is your tripod, if it’s a lightweight model that could be contributing to the problem as well.

It would help a lot if you could post the photos at a larger size to help us help you. 1000 pixels on the long edge seems to be a good size and about 150-250 kb. There are ways to enable the full size image to be accessible also, but I am not up with that.

other information that would be helpful is, did you just buy the lens, was it new, how many photos have you taken with it, and have any been sharp ? Etc.

Thanks everone for your help and advice.
I think I know what the problem is: I iused a monopod and not a tripod.
I took another shot this afternoon. I used a tripod, a cable release and mirror up.

Looks better from here. Are you happy with it ?
I can’t see the exif data, are you linking the image from offsite?
There is a tutorial somewhere that shows how to post your images directly into your post, it’s a better way for us to be able to look at them.

It is indeed better. I'm not 100% happy with it but it is an improvement.
Here is another one (F/8 - 6 sec - iso 100 - 16mm): it is indeed better with F8.
