I think they're just done with production cause it seems at least one of the models is still available.

Time to move this forum to the "Out of production models" group! :(

The D7000 will still be working for a long time though. Even my D70 still works fairly well, although it does occasionally destroy pictures.

That's like General Motors saying they're going to just make Cadillacs and discontinue all other models. Doesn't make sense to me. My D40 is still going strong, even though it's been discontinued for awhile now.
Human nature being what it is, we never seem to be happy with what we have, or what still works. Always looking for the next latest and greatest.

No, these are all older camera models, which have been supplanted by newer versions. It's more like General Motors saying they're discontinuing the 2014 models to begin making the 2015s.

I've got the D7100, but I bet a D7000 would definitely give it a run for their money!
I believe it does. I firmly believe you can crowd too many pixels on a given size of sensor and i think the D7000 has the optimal number. Am also not sold on the loss of the low-pass filter.

I'm not so sure the low pass filter makes that much of a difference one way or another. Just from my observations of cameras that have them and those that don't. I had a D610 and the D7100 at the same time, and used the same lens talking pictures of the same things, and I couldn't tell a difference. If anything the D610 was a litle brighter.

Nikon has gone nuts with new camera models these days. Jeez the F3 was produced for over 20 years!!!
Now there is a improved model every six months. I know technology is exploding but the things just need to produce great images. You don't really need tilt LCD's to do it

D7100, 5300 and 3300 have been around quite a while. No surprise that the older models are going bye bye. It's a great chance to get some deals!
