Fireworks

I want to go out tonight when it will be dark and photograph the local fireworks display. Does anybody have any advice on what settings to use. It will be hand-held so can I have a shutter speed of about 10secs or will the image blur? Should I use F16 for sharpness. Any advice would be great.

I've found there are advantages to using slow shutter speeds. Like they said Bulb mode is the way to go. F11 and an ISO around 200.

Around here, fireworks are usually no more than one or two bursts in sequence then a pause. (Boring) You have to leave the shutter open for a while to capture a good multiple burst.

Then again, a faster shutter speed has it's advantages too. This one was done with a quick shutter speed. (can't remember exactly how fast, but less than one second). The burst was a lot larger than what got captured, but it's still one of my favorites.

Very good images. I tried it hand-held as there were many crowds milling around and the result was disastrous.
