D7000 Live View Shuts off after 30seconds

Hi All

My D7000's live view monitor keeps shutting down after 30 seconds. There is a timer at the left of the screen that starts almost immediately after the mode is engaged. The timer continues even when I start recording. Once the 30seconds has elapsed the live view closes. Any idea on how to rectify this?

Same with the D3100. Very irritating. I'm told a menu setting can up it to 5 minutes on the D3100 but I can't find it. That's one of the many reasons why I switched to the D7100, where there is no time limit.

The only thing I can find is in David Busch's Field Guide under Live View time remaining where he states: This is displayed when the amount of shooting time in Live View mode is 30 seconds or less. Although Live View is possible for 60 minutes, if the D7000 overheats, this countdown display appears and the camera exits Live View before damage is done.

Does it happen every time you go into Live View, or just after you've been using it for a while? Perhaps the conditions you're shooting under have the sensor too warm to begin with? Without more information I can't tell you tell you if it's a normal function functioning normally or abnormally, but I suspect that's the source of what's going on.

If it's only happening after the camera has been in Live View for an extended time then the camera is functioning normally and you just need to give the sensor time to cool (try turning Live View off when not actively shooting). If it happens all the time then I'd contact Nikon as the temperature sensor could be malfunctioning.

There's a C4 menu option on the D7000 to change the timeout on LV (5, 10, 20 or 30 minutes), so perhaps there's something in there? I originally thought that might be the problem but there is no 30 second option - 5 minutes is the lowest option.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I suspect it's malfunctioning. I've had that camera for 5 years or so. I recently upgraded to the 800 and sent the 7000 to an authorized repair co. in Miami. They did a major overhaul ie change the shutter etc. I think maybe something else has gone wrong with it.

It has never done that before. It does it all the time. Even when I'm not recording, it does that.

Sounds like something got squirrelly in there when they replaced the shutter. Definitely contact them and let them know what's going on.
