Autofocus problem...

Few months a go I heard about AF Fine Tuning and then decided to check my 3 lenses, 35, 50, and 18-105, everything was super sharp with Fine Tuning off.

Today, after almost one month with 18-105 on the camera I mounted 35mm and then of the sudden all my photos were out of focus.
Tried 50mm, and 18-105 again, the same thing, everything is out of focus. It is worst on the 35mm, but it is obvious domething is wrong.

The problem is there while I am photographing wit viewfinder, but when in LiveView everything works well.
Never dropped my camera or anything similar, I am very carefull with my equipment.

After some research I found that many D7000 had back focus issues, but this one worked perfectly almost one year.

Does anyone know what can be the problem?
I like D7000, but just after I bought it I had some problems with yellow disolay cast, now this, very frustrating.
My old D3100 was bulletproof, I am afraid I will need to sell D7000 because all of the problems people talks about, very sad...

I don't know much, but do your lenses have VR (vibration reduction)? Possibly the VR setting on them has been turned off, or the lens has been switched to a manual focus as opposed to auto focus, just a couple of wild guesses. Just one other thing to try, the two button reset, to see if it is the camera or the lens(s).

No. Tested everything with my tripod, 18-105 without VR, 35 and 50 are without VR.
Autofocus is ON, AF-S, central point. Each other focus piont does the same.

Well, if nothing is set on the AF Fine tune, and it is not working with any lenses then you have a problem and time to send it or take it in for diagnosis and repair.

I am waiting monday...
Strange, global AF Tuning at -20 and lens AF Tuning at -10 it works well. Next shot it is back to old out of focus. Reset everything to 0, again out of focus.

AF tune, if done correctly, will remember the lens that you programmed it with and will not affect other lenses operation unless you goofed the entire process on all of the lenses that you've tried .

I wouldn't do this with a zoom lens if it was me.

Also, consider getting the latest firmware update, if you have not done so.

Have you tried shooting in different focus modes for comparison? Also, could your a2 setting be set to Release instead of Focus priority?

I just realized that my newly bought refurb has back focus problems. I've been so busy learning all the new features that I figured it was my fault. I printed some calibration charts and all my lenses are back focused. My 50mm 1.4 is so bad that it is still off at -20. Luckily I can still return it to Amazon. Not sure if I'm going to try another D7000 or not.

My first choice would be the D7100 if I don't just try another D7000. The price difference ends up being about $300, but there seems to be mixed reviews on how much better the D7100 is.

Not ready to replace all my DX lenses as well.

I understand and I respect that.

There is a flu virus going on around here and it is very easy to catch a cold. ;)

Honestly, based on my personal experience and I'm sure most who have been a photographer for a while, all started with a DX (and film) and slowly transitioned to FX. Some stayed with DX because of financial reasons but if you ask them, they wouldn't mind trying out a FX camera if they were given the opportunity. The transition takes time but once you try out a taste of FX, you'll likely not going back.

Today Nikon calibrated my autofocus, now everything works as it should. They are really quick, after few hours they called me to pick up my camera.

To all,

I bought D7000 last Sept and trying the following lenses 35mm1.8G, 50mm1.8D, 85mm1.8D,55-300mm 4.5-5.6, I found that the camera was backfocusing. Searching how to solve this problem I came across with the following site My Photography
I did not hesitate and did the process required as carefully as possible. Now I have AF tuning off on the menu and all my lenses are working in an excellent way.
