D7000 FEE error / won't take a picture

I bought my D7000 a few months ago. Keep in mind, I am a Complete newb. I've only ever used digital cameras. I bought the D7000 because I wanted to begin doing photography as a hobby and the sales associate recommended this camera for me. It worked great for the first few weeks. I was snapping pictures of everything. I've never dropped the camera or have damaged it in Anyway. I came here today to try to get some help. I don't know if I flicked a switch, touched a button or screwed with a setting, but when I press the button to take a photo, nothing happens. The back screen is black, it won't prompt the subject of what I'm trying to take a picture of. And the display screen on the top flashes "FEE" when I press the shutter button. I've tried to read the manul and am just confused. I'm really inexperienced and I would love to continue to use my camera. It's been sitting untouched for over 2 months because I can't figure out what's wrong or any of the settings.
If someone could help me or provide some insight, that would be so helpful. Thanks.

Re: D7000 Help

Yes. The card is inside. The camera turns On. But, no picture is displayed on the back screen. I can see through the looking port just fine. And when I go to press the shutter button to take a picture, no picture is taken and I get that "FEE" error blinking on the top display.

Re: D7000 Help

Lens is probably just slightly loose. May have accidently touched the lens unlock button and its now not quite in the right place to make connection. Take off the lens and reattach until you hear it click I think your error message will disappear

Re: D7000 Help

I'm at work right now and don't have access to the camera. So I will try to reattach the lens when I get home. I didn't tamper or disturb the lens in any way from when it was working to when it wasn't. But I will definitely give it a try.

Re: D7000 Help

This is Nikon's explanation of the FEE error. Sorry, I didn't read through it but it could very well have some useful information.

I was going to ask what type of lens is being used. If it's one that is in this article (one with an aperture ring), you need to ensure the aperture stays set on the smallest f-stop. If it has an aperture ring, and the ring moves to a larger f-stop, you will receive the error message.

Change the lens aperture to its smallest setting (largest number). If the lens is already on the smallest aperture, rotate the lens from the smallest to any larger one, then return it to the smallest aperture.

If this doesn't work, turn the power to the camera off, then remove and replace the lens, making sure the lens is set to the smallest aperture before you turn the camera back on.

Of course, I'm assuming you've got a lens with a rotating aperture ring attached to the camera. i hope you are able to get the FEE error cleared.

Assuming the lens is attached correctly, try to format the card(s) a few times from within the camera menu. The FEE error can also have something to do with a corrupt card or a card that isn't able to read/write properly. I've gotten this error a few times and it's always been down to a reformat that seems to straighten it all out.
