D7000 fastest fps in RAW?

I was looking into how fast the D7000 can actually write data from the buffer to the sd card. I found that it definitely supports the new SDXC cards, which are currently up to 104mb/sec.

The D7000 can shoot 6fps max. This table from the D7000 manual is saying that a sandisk class 10 extreme @ 30mb/s can write 10 files to the buffer in NEF(RAW) 14-bit (or 1.6 seconds worth of pics) before the 6fps speed starts to over run the buffer and starts to slow down. Keep in mind too, that while pictures are being written into the buffer, they are being written out to the sd card at the same time.

So, what if we had a 104mb/sec SDXC card in there? Assuming that we can now write out of the buffer at 3.4 times the speed, you would be able to take 34 images in RAW (or 5.6 seconds worth) before the buffer fills and you have to wait a second or two to resume taking pics a 6fps.

Does my math make sense and am I assuming that the buffer is working this way?

You are making sense to me... I believe that the buffers are writing output and reading input simutaneously. I was taking pics at a dog show and learned to fire the 6FPS kinda like you would a machine gun... short bursts instead of a long pull. The second or so "breather" between bursts allowed my subject to move to the next area I wanted to shoot and let the buffer recharge a little. I did not seem like I needed the buffer to empty before I started shooting at 6FPS again. As for the SDXC cards... man I would love to think that adding one of those would allow significantly longer bursts but at $300+ for a card I just don't see that happening for me anytime soon. However, if you would like to collect donations on my behalf I'd certainly perform this experiment and write a proper review :)

I think I am incorrect in saying that the current speed of SDXC cards is 104mb/sec. Apparently they will support that speed, but the fastest I've found is currently 35mb/sec. Regardless, they're up to 64gb, which is pretty impressive.

Hi John.

Looks like your math may be a bit optimistic. :)

This page (link below) from ob Galbraith is about the most complete information I've seen on card write speeds from the D7000. Here is a snippet from the Galbraith test results:
