D7000 Impressed Me Tonight. What a Beauty!

I have been shooting on the D800E for a few months, and with the help of my fellow Nikonites I chose the D7000 over the D5100. I am so glad I did. The video is great, I used it last week.

Well tonight I had a wedding, so it wash first time with the D7000 on a shoot. I had a 50mm 1.4g on it. The D800E had a 24-70 & 70-200.

I was surprised to see that the D7000 kicked royal ass!!

It's fast, accurate, and is similar layout to the d800E. I also have a battery grip on the D7000, as well as the D800E.

I know many people may question this, however it seems there is less shutter lag with the D7000 vs the D800E. I mean as soon as I touch the shutter button it fires aggressively!

Great camera and worth every penny. Also the low light performance is mind blowing for a crop sensor.

I wonder if the D7100 is leaps better. I'm thoroughly impressed I love my D7000.

Had I the money I definitely would've planted myself in the D7000, but for less than the body-only price, I got my 5100 2/3 completely decked out for all possible conditions.

For you though, its really the only DX/backup worth investing into given you have 800 and make a living off of the art.

Completely agree with you. On a side note I was going to buy a D3s or D4 soon, but the D7000 is impressive and now I can take my time.

Glad to hear you had a nice experience with the D7000 in the field. I've experienced the same thing compared to my D800....the D7000 is just an all-around terrific performer when it comes to getting great photos fast. And the quality of images with the 50 1.4G is also amazing.

I would like to know what you photographed at the wedding that made the 7000 stand out so well compared to the D800e..I have the 7000 and am wary of trading up if I dont get much advantage.

I have both the D700 and the D7000 both fantastic cameras. My D7000 has traveled with me many times overseas and never let me down. I bought mine when they first came out and it is a great body. Heading overseas in a few days taking my D7000 along ( back up Canon G10 ).I know some have had problems with their D7000, but I can honestly say I have never had a problem with mine.

What problems have people had with the D7000?

I have my AF tune on -10 for my 50mm, seems to be much sharper.

I have a D5100 and D7000. Was keeping my D5100 cause I wasn't sure I would like all the buttons and dials on the D7000, Now that I have used and and learned it, I will be putting my D5100 on CL. I learned how to use U1 and U2 and to back focus (still learning) and my pics are getting so much better and a lot less fixing in lightroom

I like the D7000 so much that I've convinced a friend of mine to get a D7100 instead of D5200 after he saw my D7000. I'd be curious too how the D7100 compares in overall performance to the D7000.

I have been shooting the D7000 for a little while and I do love it. My D7100 gets here Thursday so i will be letting everyone know how it compares.

hard to tell them apart . very similar results , except for 24mp.
the 7000 prices are dirt cheap now that the 7100 is here .

the 7100 deserves good glass .
I see a 17-55 dx in don's future...............
the 70-200 vr 1 or 2 rocks the 24 mp too , start saving your lunch money don.

I love my D7000. The only thing I really wish were possible is to save the CL and CH settings for U1 and/or U2. Say you saw a bird about to take off or taking off from a tree. You switch to your U2 setting which is set for the occasion of 'action' shots, AF-C, fast shutter, all that...but, you wanted to take many exposures very quickly. That's another rotation of the dial right there. I think this should have been thought of for the 600/610/7100 also.

Other than that, can't be beat, especially now for the price!

I leave my D7100's mode sub-dial set to CL by default for this very reason. One of the first lessons I learned in good photographic technique is pressing the shutter button with your finger... Smoooooothly. If your camera is going into burst-mode every time you press the shutter button because the mode sub-dial is set to CH or CL, maybe you need to relax that button pressin' finger a smidge? Just a thought is all...

i had huge backfocus issues with mine. it was still under warranty however so I sent it in for calibration, it came back a completely new camera! I am absolutely thrilled with this camera and have absolutely no desire to trade either up or down. I dont earn my living with photography, so as a hobbyist it fulfils my needs 100%.

I tried doing that at first I believe, many moons ago. It was weird because I wasn't expecting the shutter to fire so rapidly.
I might try doing this again though, practicing 'single safe release' :p

I have started doing this recently also. I still have not taken the time to set up my user controls on my D7100 yet. Been to busy playing with it.
