Thanks good to know... may be some really cut prices on the 7000 (depending on price point) when it is actually released..

Interesting that the rumors for a replacement say April while retails in the EU were already listing the D7000 as discontinued. My fear is that the announcement we were expecting this week met with technical difficulties, or why else would they have told dealers they were no longer taking orders? But then again, this is just me on a Friday evening, 1/2 way through my second Uinta (if you don't know what it is, you should). :)

I wonder if it will be solely the D7000 replacement or come with the pro body/features the D300 upgraders are waiting for. The build and price point may be a clue to if the D300 is ever really replaced. If it comes in below 1200, there may be room for a pro Dx, above 1200 and I think this model may be it. Exciting time for those waiting :)

Sounds like a DX D600 and not a D300 replacement. Same form factor so they say, only smaller. It will not have a full metal jacket and no Pro AF I bet. There is room for the D300 replacement near the end of 13 or early 14. We shall wait and see. But I bet most of the bank on this one not being a pro DX. The 300 is right under the FF brothers except the D600 which broke the rules. I feel they will make another DX semi pro - the D600 doesn't count in this arena even in semi pro FF.

Don't think I've had a Uinta (had to look it up) before. Did have some Guinness though, in honour of the rugby.

There was a thread somewhere discussing this (or something along the same lines).

The D7100 is the logical naming convention (D3000/3100/3200, D5000/5100/5200), but it would put the 'D7100' out of line with the current Dx200 naming.

So will Nikon just skip the D7100 and call it the D7200 instead, thereby making their current line up all Dx200s, or will the replacement break the trend?

If they do make it the D7200 or D7300 that would change so many things. Not in a bad way depending on how it pans out I guess. For one thing they could keep the kiddie pool buffer which would stop a few pro DX buyers or they could expand it to a size able to withstand the FPS which would be a win win. They need to beef up the body of the 7000 and if they do - again very nice - if not sorry D200/300/300s owners. Also they would need to get rid of the scene modes altogether - really who uses them anyways? I'd say with a chunky full Mag body, Fast 51 point pro AF, D7000 low light performance or better, buffer that doesn't choke with high frame rates and the negation of the mode dial you would have the next pro DX as is without even upgrading the sensor to the 24.3MP or greater.

with the D5200 being released in europe first are they using europe as a testing ground to see if they have problems before a US release ? Could the Uk FOCUS exhibiton in very early march be the launch ??

You would not want to relese a D7200 in US so close after the D5200 as it would hit your 5200 sales...

Dont think it will be D7100 as there has been too much confusion with batteries between P7000 and D7000 and they wont want to repeat that with P and D7100

I'd be very surprised if they used the Focus on Imaging show to announce/launch the D7100 successor, but if they did, then it would be an amazing chance to get some hands on use with it before any retail units are available.
(I say this because, last year they had the D800 available for hands on demo, and there was no retails stock available at the time).
